Today I’m 36 years old.
And 28 weeks pregnant with our darling
I woke up this morning to a gorgeous surprise from Atlas (who stays up waaaay later than me). Balloons and birthday activities ready to go! I went to visit him in bed and he sang me the birthday song that he wrote and that we also sing to our baby in utero.
I cried.
I love birthdays for how reflective and special they can be.
As we cuddled in bed I told him about how when I was growing up with my parents and 2 sisters, the tradition was that when it was your birthday you’d stay in bed, and in due course you’d hear a precession of the rest of the family walking slowly down the hall, in a line, presents in hand singing “Happy birthday to you...”
Eventually your door would slowly open and the whole fam would sit on your bed and hand you a present at a time to open.
It was so special.
Having our own baby soon has me tearful thinking about all the traditions we might spark together, all the creative ways we might imbue their life with wonder and magic and play.
What their birthdays might look like.
I’m so grateful for such a creative, loving, and life giving partner to do this with.

WHY SOMATIC PRACTICES WORK SO WELL
Slowing it down and noticing sensation in a moment of overwhelm or freak out has the potential to allow you to meet something in yourself that you might have been unable to meet before.
For me, somatic practices have saved and changed my life and continue to.
When you’ve not received the codes for down regulating your nervous system automatically
Learning to notice what’s going on in your body
Soothe and calm your nervous system
Allow new ways of processing in
Realise that all emotion is just sensation
Has the potential to mean you are able to find a new way forward instead of just reacting to the sensations in the ways you always have.
It creates space for a new possibility.
The noticing makes something that may have felt insurmountable suddenly feel manageable.
It is also how I meet the multi-sensory and multi-dimensional layers of reality
And works in more or less the same way.
This body is constantly giving you messages
If you can take the time to pause and listen
You might be amazed at what you find.

Life makes the most sense to me though the body.
Don’t get me wrong - I love ideas. I love concepts. I love jamming on this layer sometimes.
But it’s also the layer where it can all really snowball
Become distorted
Get overwhelming.
I’ve learned to slow it down and come back to body
Sensation
Here
Now.
It works in MSP too. Sensing the energetic, spiritual, multi-dimensional through the body. Slowing it down and processing it, one sensation at a time.
It’s the plane of existence where I just am.
Where the landscape makes sense.
Or sometimes there are things to feel
But they’re just
Sensations
With content attached
That can often be loved and processed through presence
Through feeling.
I love my body.
I love being in body.
