Its been a huge week for Mushin Karate!

Kyu Gradings 👊👊👊

We have some awesome new colours around our dojos with kyu gradings being held last week. For those who successfully graded, it was great to see the hard work pay off!

Junior Competition 🏅🏅🏅

We held a junior competition on Sunday, with events across Kihon, Kata and Kumite for our under 18’s! Amazing spirit and camaraderie was demonstrated on the day and big bravery from our students whose first time it was competing. Thanks to Margaret River Karate and TSKF Southwest who also came along!

Shihan Lutie van den Berg visit 🤛🤜

Big thank you to Shihan Lutie who taught a special class on Tuesday night at the Hilton dojo! With a focus on stances in our Intermediate class and a deep dive into Bassai Dai in the senior class, we all walked away with improved karate and knowledge. We are grateful for Shihan Lutie’s guidance and tuition 😊

Dan Grades 🥋🥋🥋

We are SUPER PROUD to announce that we have 3 new Dan Grades at Mushin! Under the watchful eye of Shihan Lutie, Sophie, Dylan and Steve completed a strong grading and successful passed to Shodan.

All three candidates have put in significant work to get to this point and we are so proud of their efforts!

The information pack for our Spring Gasshuku & JKAA National Championships has now been released. We’re thrilled to take this next step toward our first All‑Inclusive Gasshuku on the Sunshine Coast.

A great weekend of karate learning, growth, and connection.

Congratulations to Sensei Gerry Freeman , who successfully passed his C Examiner accreditation this weekend at the JKAA Sydney Gasshuku — a fantastic achievement and a reflection of his dedication to the art and to maintaining high standards within our community.

Standardised examinations within the JKA are so important, as they ensure consistency, fairness, and integrity across all dojos worldwide. No matter where you train, students are assessed against the same criteria, preserving the quality and credibility of our karate. It also ensures that those progressing through the ranks — and those entrusted to examine others — are doing so with a deep understanding of correct technique, spirit, and tradition.

A sincere thank you to Shihan Izumiya and Sensei Akiyama from Headquarters for their instruction and guidance, as well as Shihan Lutie van den Berg , Sensei Phil Young (Chief Instructor, JKA Australia ), and theJKAA Executive Committee for organising such a valuable event.

Thank you also to Sensei Robin from Castle Hill Dojo for hosting.

Grateful to be part of an organisation that continues to uphold such strong standards while bringing people together through karate.

Last night’s training had a special kind of energy — and then it clicked why. There are 11 families represented in this photo! 🙌

How incredible is it to see so many families training side by side. And that’s not even all of them — we have even more families across our other dojos.

Mums, dads, brothers, sisters, cousins, grandparents, step-families… everyone is welcome on the mats.
