There has been no shortage of articles by Christians on the Israel Folau controversy. Although I'm adding to the pile, here I've tried to look beyond the immediate issue and instead focus on a key factor which is often overlooked in when Christians cite the Bible in public (both what it says, and how it says it) - the importance of something called "rhetorical setting."
