Did you know we were in Canberra on the 16 of May? held our Beyond Bride Price series.

Once again, reminding us that Beyond Bride Price is more than a presentation of research findings. It is a space to reflect on the broader implications of those findings for South Sudanese Australian communities, and for other African Australian communities navigating culture, identity, family expectations, and intergenerational change in the diaspora.

The Canberra dialogue was another reminder of why returning research to the community matters.

We are deeply grateful to the community for showing up, listening, engaging, and asking thoughtful questions about Dr Anyier Yuol’s research.

To our community in Brisbane and Adelaide — keep an eye out. Dr Anyier Yuol will be making her way to you soon as we continue this national conversation.

After successful gatherings in Perth, Melbourne, and Sydney, the Beyond Bride Price dialogues have been eye-opening, thought-provoking, and deeply meaningful for many in the South Sudanese community.

We now look forward to bringing this important conversation to Canberra.

Join us for Beyond Bride Price — a South Sudanese community gathering bringing together dialogue, cultural performances, and intergenerational reflection grounded in research and lived experience.

We are proud to have our young women leaders at the Women Deliver 2026 Conference in Melbourne

Sara Ali, Henrietta Adomako, and Nardu Doe-Lawson are part of a global community contributing to important conversations on gender equality.

From decades of global commitments on gender equality to this week’s discussions at Women Deliver 2026, progress continues to evolve — but it is also being challenged. The very systems designed to advance gender equality are increasingly under pressure.

This is why the presence and leadership of young women in these spaces matters more than ever.

At Lead Beyond Education, we remain committed to advancing girls’ education and strengthening youth leadership as a pathway to lasting change.

Representing Lead Beyond Education, our delegates, Sara Ali, Henrietta Adomako, and Nardu Doe-Lawson, will be joining global leaders, advocates, and changemakers working to advance gender equality.

At a time when bold action is needed, we are committed to advancing girls’ education and amplifying youth leadership to build a more just and equitable future.

We look forward to learning, connecting, and contributing to conversations that shift power and drive meaningful change.

Last weekend, we gathered in Perth for Beyond Bride Price: A South Sudanese Community Gathering.

Despite the sensitivity of the topic, the dialogue was thoughtful, respectful, and grounded in a genuine willingness to listen to every voice in the room.

There is still so much to unpack and so much to learn. These conversations are not always easy, but they are necessary as we reflect on culture, family, and how we support the wellbeing of the next generation.

The national dialogue series continues, with as the next stop on 11 April.

What to expect:
- Key research insights from my PhD research on bride price practices in the South Sudanese community in Australia
- A facilitated intergenerational dialogue bringing together elders, women, men, and youth
- Contributions from community leaders and organisations, including Settlement Services International (SSI)
- Community reflection in a culturally respectful and safe space
- Cultural performances and a Loor Jieng to close the evening

Who should attend:
- South Sudanese community members — elders, parents, youth, women and men
- Community leaders and organisations
- Members of other African communities interested in understanding bride price practice in the diaspora and supporting respectful dialogue

Please join us in Melbourne, and feel free to share with your networks.

Leadership starts the moment you step forward.

These students helped us welcome leaders, partners, and community voices at the Thought Leadership Summit: Beyond Bride Price and Dowry — and reminded us why leadership matters to young girls at every level.

We’re so proud of you. Keep rising. 🌟
