Voting for the MLCB Awards (MARC library Children’s Book Awards) has begun across the six MARC schools. Students have browsed through the tub of notable books for each category: Picture Storybooks, Non-Fiction, Graphic Novels, Junior Novel, Novels for Older readers. The most borrowed books from the van have been selected as the notables.

The students have shortlisted three books from the categories appropriate to their year level and using this shortlist, are now voting on their favourite! It is great to give the students a voice and the opportunity to share what they love to read!

Bring on Book Week…when winners will be announced! We all can’t wait!

The MAGIC of picture storybooks came alive across all six MARC schools this week with a visit from local author/illustrator, Shelley Knoll-Miller

Shelley delighted the students with a high-quality, meaningful and engaging literature experience. The students were immediately captivated by her exuberant, friendly nature and passion for writing and illustrating. The spinning wheel proved to be a hit with each class, providing a unique way of conducting her Q & A sessions. The students looked in awe as she spontaneously drew anything they requested during the ‘Simon Says’ game. This activity helped initiate some amazing storytelling within each group.

If you haven’t already, check out her new ‘Parcels for—— ‘ series of picture storybooks for young children….and for those people young at heart! A great read aloud, with an exciting guessing game and an unexpected twist at the end!

Thanks Shelley for sharing your passion for what you do and inspiring our students.

A great collection of books for students to enjoy when they return in Term 3. There will be some happy borrowers! Perfect weather for cataloguing, processing and covering library books…and reading them of course! 😊

It was such a fun end to the term for MARC Library students, with the launch of the MLCB (MARC Library Children’s Book) Awards across all participating schools. The MARC Library book award theme being ‘READING IS DREAMING WITH YOUR EYES OPEN’!

The MARC Library teachers selected a collection of books that were regularly borrowed from the van. These popular books were then sorted into 5 different categories…picture story, non-fiction, junior novels, novels for older readers and graphic novels. The students have had the opportunity to browse through the different categories of books and shortlist their favourites.

The students will now vote on their favourite book in those categories that are appropriate to them. Votes will be counted and the winning book in each category will be announced during Book Week.

We are so excited to present the MLCB Awards for the first time and to give the students a voice and the opportunity to share what they love to read! These are our own student choice awards and we wait with great anticipation for the winners to be announced!

Some Book Restaurants popped up this week at MARC Schools for a ‘BOOK TASTING’. Many book delicacies were served up on platters for students to ‘taste’ and enjoy. The students were certainly treated to a delicious menu of new books, which many described as ‘yummy’! What a book feast!!!

Last week was our final MARC session for 2022. Where did that year go? 🤷‍♀️ We concluded with a special Xmas Quiz across the six participating MARC schools.🎄There was a mixture of Xmas related questions, as well as questions about the many wonderful books we have read and enjoyed throughout the year!

Students also completed a task where they reflected on the year they had in MARC Library. The feedback from the students is always valuable in helping to plan the MARC Library Program for the following year. We particularly love their WISH LISTS…the sourcing of book requests for next year has already begun!!! 👏👏👏

Hollee and I are currently in the middle of our stocktake. If your children still have MARC books at home, can they please return them to school as soon as possible. We will be doing a final pick-up around schools on Friday.

Hollee and I would like to thank you all for your support this year. It has been very much appreciated. Merry Christmas to you all…and we wish you all a safe and happy holiday season.

We loved having Nova Weetman visit us during Term 2. She has some exciting news! Her new book has just been published… The Jammer. Great read for mature readers!

This is an excellent novel about grief, growing up, finding your community and embracing your passions. It’s clear that Nova Weetman truly respects and empathises with young people, and she has created some lovely characters here, filling the book with interesting and kind people, such as Sammy who catches mice by the creek and sells them as pets to fund his skating, and Graham, a gentle and observant man who works at an animal shelter and draws a map of Preston to welcome Fred to the neighbourhood.

It is now available on the MARC van for loan.
