OHS SNOW ❄️ TRIP: this week our intrepid Year 9 and 10 Sports Studies students hit the slopes to learn, or improve their skiing and snowboarding skills. Whilst there has not been ideal snowfall this season, there was clear perseverance in challenging conditions. The words “the goal is simple, be better than yesterday” inspired all to do their best each day. Overall, many made the most of every minute on the slopes and a good time was had!

Success with Sheep this Term!

In Week 2, our students travelled to the Orange Dohne Wether Challenge, competing against a range of other schools. It was a fantastic opportunity for student involvement, and we were grateful for the strong support from the community. We’re excited to share that our students celebrated success by placing first in the Carcass competition for our zone.

Congratulations to all the students for their hard work and participation! A big thank you to Matt Bowden for his ongoing support and guidance, especially with feeding the sheep throughout the competition.

Dubbo Wether Challenge – 11th & 12th August

Our students also took part in the annual Dubbo Wether Challenge at the Dubbo Showgrounds. Facing tough competition, they proudly placed third in the ‘Out of Wool’ section.

Throughout the event, students engaged in a diverse range of hands-on workshops and learning experiences, including fleece testing, career pathways in the sheep and wool industry, junior judging, agricultural technology, carcass valuing, and more.

They also volunteered to assist with shearing and had the chance to showcase their practical skills by presenting their sheep in the competition. This experience helped them demonstrate the training, care, handling, and husbandry skills developed while raising their sheep over recent months.

This has been a fantastic opportunity for our students to build confidence, develop practical agricultural skills, and gain a deeper understanding of the sheep and wool industry.

Once again, we congratulate all students involved and sincerely thank Matt Bowden for his continued support.

CHS Gymnastics State Championships 2026

Congratulations to Ivy, Matilda, Kali and Wairangi, who proudly represented the Western Region and Orange High School in Level 6 at the CHS Gymnastics State Championships in Newcastle last week.

A special congratulations to Ivy on an outstanding achievement, placing 3rd on Vault! 🥉

We are so proud of all four girls for their dedication, skill and the wonderful way they represented our school. 🐝

Our talented music students are proudly representing OHS across the globe!
During the July holidays, Madeline F toured Kuching, Kuala Lumpur, and Singapore with the renowned Gondwana Choir. Meanwhile, Abigail J is preparing to embark on an exciting journey to South Africa with Gondwana, and Hayden C recently participated in the Arts Unit Boys Vocal Program in Sydney.

The Inspire - High potential and gifted education program is strengthening opportunities for students to be challenged and supported in NSW public schools and here at Orange High School.

The dedication and passion these students have shown to their craft is opening incredible opportunities and taking them to amazing places. We’re so proud of their achievements!

Last Wednesday, our Year 9 Peer Support Leaders had the privilege to listen to our ex student Paige Tonkin (class of 2013) deliver a powerful message about leadership.

The main message of the day was ''We don't have to be the loudest, most accomplished person in the room to be a leader''.

Thank you Paige for inspiring our students with your powerful story and presentation. We thank you and CSU for your time.

Today marks a significant milestone for our Year 12 students as they begin their HSC Trial exams. We are so proud of the dedication, perseverance, and resilience you have shown. We also acknowledge those students who are starting their HSC exams today!

Remember to believe in yourselves and trust in your hard work and abilities. The entire school community is cheering you on. You’ve got this, Year 12! 🌟

Our talented year 12 Music 1, Music 2 and Extension Music students presented their HSC repertoire at the senior recital night last Wednesday.

This is their final performance before trials, with the HSC finish line in sight! Well done to all performers who shared their hard work and talent with the audience, it was a fabulous night.

NETBALL: Today, the OHS 15s CHS and 15s shadow netball team participated in the Western Region knockout netball gala day. Both teams played 5 round games, with the The 15s shadow team had many close games, with all the team using the opportunity to further their playing experience. 15s CHS progressing through undefeated then faced Mudgee High in the semi final, winning comfortably. They then played Bathurst High in the final, winning 42-20 from strong defensive action, solid drives and feeds from the centre court and slick shooting. The girls are now Western Area Champions and will progress through to the statewide knockout finals in Term 4. 💛🖤🐝Congratulations team, and a huge thankyou to Annabelle M and Abi R for umpiring, as well as the parent supporters that cheered them on. Orange High School is excited to share that Year 7 student Freya S is currently playing as a member of the NSW Strikers in the Japan Junior Softball League Cup tournament in Japan!

Freya is showing incredible skill, taking on catcher, third base, first base, and outfield. Over three days, the Strikers played five games in very hot conditions in Tsuruga, a historic port city in Fukui Prefecture, Japan. Games are played under JJSL rules, which include different balls and bats compared to Australia, and all matches take place on sand diamonds which is also different to Australia. Some of the grounds are even surrounded by rice paddies! The competition is top-level, with great skill on display from all teams, many including younger elementary school players. The NSW Strikers were proud to compete against the eventual winners, Okayama Girls.

Off the field, the tour has been full of cultural experiences, such as visiting temples, exploring historic villages and wetlands, and enjoying dinner in a restaurant dressed in traditional attire.

Congratulations Freya and the NSW Strikers for representing NSW and embracing this international opportunity! ⚾️
