What they DON’T tell you about the AMC MCQ Exam...
You’ve probably been told to just memorize guidelines, recall past questions, and stack up flashcards. But if that’s your entire strategy, you might be walking into a trap. 🪤
The AMC 1 MCQ isn’t a test of your memory. It’s a test of your clinical reasoning and analytical thinking. 🧠✨
Here is the reality check most IMGs miss:
It’s not about the “What”, it’s about the “Why”: The exam doesn’t just want to know the diagnosis; it wants to see how you analyze a patient scenario under pressure, rule out differentials, and prioritize the next best step in an Australian healthcare context.
The “Recall” Trap: Relying solely on old recalls won’t save you when the AMC tweaks a single variable in a clinical vignette that completely changes the management plan.
Safety First: The exam heavily weighs your ability to spot red flags and make safe, logical clinical decisions.
Standard memorization will only get you so far. To pass, you have to train your brain to think like an Australian registrar. 🇦🇺💼

🚨 AHPRA English test scores have officially changed! 🚨 Australian Medical Registration
If you are planning your move to Australia, you need to look at the date on your calendar. The Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) rolled out updated minimum test score requirements that went into effect on 23 April 2026.
Here is what you need to know right now:
👉 If you took your test on or before 22 April 2026: The old scores (like a PTE 66 or OET Grade B) still apply to you.
👉 If you take your test on or after 23 April 2026: The new score alignment applies.
While the fundamental level of English required hasn’t changed, the score structures have shifted significantly to match current concordance research:
🔹 IELTS: Stays exactly the same (7.0 overall).
🔹 OET: Say goodbye to letter grades! It has transitioned fully to a numeric system (e.g., 360 for Speaking/Reading, 350 for Listening/Writing).
🔹 PTE: The overall score dropped to 63, but Speaking jumped drastically to 76! Swipe through the carousel to see the exact breakdown so you don’t target the wrong score during your exam prep!
Are you currently studying for your exam? Which one? Let us know which test you’re taking in the comments! 👇
