It is with great sadness that we share the news of the passing of Aunty Ruth Simms, who was a Founding and Life Member of the NSW AECG.

Aunty Ruth dedicated her life to Aboriginal Education as an educator, mentor and advocate empowering young people to succeed and thrive.

Aunty Ruth has had a huge impact on Aboriginal Education, and her legacy will be felt by generations to come.

We extend our deepest condolences to her daughter Trudy, grandchildren, great grandchildren, family and friends.

Today marks the start of NAIDOC Week.

The 2026 theme '50 Years of Deadly' marks a milestone. For five decades, NAIDOC week has celebrated the voices of our communities - steady, unapologetic, and proud. Each year, its themes have called for truth, celebrated culture, honoured resistance, and reminded the nation of who we are.

NAIDOC has always been more than a week - it's a platform, a protest, a celebration, and a statement of survival.

Today marks the start of National Reconciliation Week.

The theme for 2026 'All In' serves as a call for all Australians to commit to reconciliation in their everyday lives, and actively participate in structural and cultural change. The theme also reminds us that reconciliation and advancing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ rights isn’t a passive activity, and it is not solely the responsibility of First Nations people, who have carried the weight of championing, explaining and acting for far too long.

Reconciliation will not happen by itself, and it will not happen without all of us.

We’re excited to share that our Early Years posters are now available online for download and distribution.

This has been a really collaborative piece of work, and we’d like to acknowledge and thank everyone who contributed to bringing these to life — particularly Georgia Stewart from UNSW, and most importantly our incredible artists, Kayla Maher, Dakotah Ballangarry and Chelsea Cooper. We also extend our thanks to our Language and Culture Nests for their guidance in identifying and applying appropriate language across the posters.

You can download your copies here:

If you’re connected with NSW AECG staff in your area, they may also have hard copies available to share.
