PERFORMANCE SKILLS
Hansa Dance students train for stage performances, with coaching in dance, movement, drama, choreography, expression, confidence and theatre. Hansa Dance’s performances are a unique fusion of traditional and contemporary dance, music and costumes, East and West. DANCE STYLES
Hansa Dance trains both male and female students of all levels in traditional Hill-country Kandyan Dance,
Southern Sri Lankan Low-country Pahatharata Dance, Sri Lankan Sabaragamuwa Style Dance, Sri Lankan Folk-dance and Ceylonese-Portuguese Dance. Students also learn the foundations of Classical and Contemporary Ballet, Modern Dance, and Expressive Dance and extend their repertoire with elements of Indian dance styles such as Bharatha Natyam, Kathak, Odissi and Bollywood. Hansa Dance continually works to blend the East and West in unique and innovative dance and drama programs that reflect the contemporary, multicultural country in which we live. A UNIQUE DANCE SCHOOL
Hansa Dance school is unlike any other Sri Lankan dance school, because students are not subject to a gruelling curriculum or vigorous testing, or limited to one particular dance style. No tests or dance exams means students focus on acquiring stage performance skills. Hansa Dance taps into each student’s innate abilities and inspires in them the confidence to excel on stage. Every class is rich in education, enjoyment and energy, and enhances confidence. All Hansa Dance lessons are structured on specially choreographed, original stage performance pieces. Each lesson provides students with choreography for a particular dance routine. Hansa Dance’s unique teaching method enables students to simultaneously acquire dance steps and performances skills. Lessons will often incorporate several dance styles, thereby engaging and maintaining students’ interest and eagerness to learn. All lessons are done to music from a wide range of traditional, contemporary, Eastern and Western sources.
