After spending time in Collinsville and Bowen, the Qld Ryda team is heading on to Mackay and the Whitsundays, continuing to give young people practical road safety education before they begin their driving journeys.

A big thank you to Sergeant Michelle O'Regan and Police Liaison Officer Abbie Paul from the Queensland Police Service for sharing their knowledge and experience with students (pictured here alongside our facilitators Nick, Claire and Alan).

Ryda is supported by the QLD Government Community Road Safety Scheme. Thank you to everyone helping make these important programs happen.

Our Ryda community has lost one of our own.

It is with great sadness that we acknowledge the passing of our friend and colleague, Walter Currie.

For almost a decade, Walter was a familiar face in Ryda workshops, facilitating Speed & Stopping and Drive SOS sessions across Brisbane. He had a wonderful ability to connect with young people, combining a wealth of experience with a calm, approachable style that put students at ease and encouraged them to engage.

Walter took great pride in every workshop he delivered. His commitment to road safety education shone through in every session, and the positive feedback he received from students and teachers reflected the lasting impression he made.

To those of us who had the privilege of working alongside him, Walter will be remembered as a true gentleman. He was always supportive of his fellow facilitators, generous with his knowledge, and a valued member of our Ryda team.

Walter's passing has been deeply felt across our Queensland team, and he will be sadly missed by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing and working alongside him.

Our heartfelt condolences are with Walter's family, friends, his colleagues at Coastwide Driving School, and all who loved him.

Thank you, Walter, for the difference you made.

📸 We found it!

As we head through our 25th year, we went looking for the oldest Ryda photo we could find. This one was taken in March 2004.

We'd been running the program for a few years before then, but digital cameras were still pretty new… so this is the earliest snapshot we have in the archives!

The students in this photo would be about to hit 40 now 🤯, with decades of driving experience behind them. We'd like to think that at least a little bit of what they learned at Ryda has stayed with them over the years.

Every day, young people make decisions on the road that can change lives forever.

At Ryda, our facilitators help students build the skills and confidence to make safer choices before they're behind the wheel. It's engaging, interactive work that leaves a lasting impact.

We're looking for confident, engaging facilitators to join our Sydney team and help deliver the Ryda road safety program to senior high school students.

You don't need a background in road safety – we'll provide the training. What matters most is your ability to connect with people, lead engaging conversations and create a memorable learning experience.

If you're a teacher, trainer, presenter, emergency services professional, social worker, university student, or simply someone who loves working with young people and making a genuine difference, we'd love to hear from you.

Speaking up in the car can be really important, but it isn’t always easy to know how to give a friend a difficult message.

That’s why, in Ryda, students practise those conversations through a fun role-play where they have to convince a friend not to embarrass themselves by auditioning for a TV singing competition.

A big shout-out to our facilitator Glen, who brought today’s workshop in Caloundra to life with his homemade Australian Rydal clapperboard! 🎬🎤

We love seeing the creativity our facilitators bring to their workshops. It’s little touches like these that help students relax, get involved and build the confidence to speak up when it really matters.
