Even more Science for Science Week at Saint Francis Xavier! Thanks Miss Davies for sharing 4D's learning this week!

Throughout the week, we explored a range of science activities, including evaporation experiments and creating a cloud in a jar. Students also participated in the Science Week competition challenge, where they discussed adaptations and imagined what life might be like in the year 2100!

Students investigated the "fire triangle" and explored the fascinating science behind Indigenous fire management practices. This learning connected directly to our current HASS unit, where we are studying Australia’s First Nations Peoples and their deep connection to Country.

We finished the week with a Science Week themed directed drawing activity, providing a creative way to celebrate and reflect on our learning.

☀️ Walk to School Fun! 🚶‍♀️🐶🚶‍♂️

What a wonderful morning we had yesterday for our Walk to School! It was fantastic to see so many students, parents, families and friends join us to enjoy the sunshine, fresh air and the simple joy of walking to school together.

A big thank you to Nigel Dalton, our state member for Mackay, who spoke with our students about the importance of exercise and how staying active helps keep our bodies healthy and strong.

We were also very grateful to Sergeant Edwards, who took the time to talk with all of our students about safe road behaviours before we set off on our walk 🚦👮 myPolice Mackay Whitsunday

Thank you to Mackay Police, our families and our wider community for helping make the morning such a positive and memorable experience for our students. We loved seeing everyone out walking, talking and enjoying the beautiful morning together! ❤️🤍💙

What an unforgettable Thursday for our young cricketers at the Blast Match Challenge!

The day kicked off watching the Aussie Men’s Test team warm up in the nets before our students took to the main field during the lunch break for a quick, backyard-style match.

The highlight? Aussie star Travis Head joined in on the fun with both St. Francis teams—and a huge shoutout to Carter Curry for hitting Travis for a 6!

To wrap it all up, the kids scored autographs and photos with Travis Head, Alex Carey, and Beau Webster. Amazing memories and a great experience for our upcoming stars! 🏏

We had a fantastic Music Eisteddfod this week!

The St Francis Concert Band and Drum Corp and Choirs from Prep to Year 6 performed at the MECC this week.

A big thank you to our teachers Mrs Persson, Sam Bauer and Tim McLelland for all their hard work in preparing our students for their performances. Also thank you to our choir accompanist, Mrs Jackson for coming to school every Wednesday morning this term to rehearse with the choirs. Thank you to Janelle Agius from St Patrick’s College for the generous Instrumental Program you support and encourage.

Thank you to the St Francis staff for the flexibility that Eisteddfod requires. From changed timetables to many emails and late buses, we appreciate you all so that our students have this performance opportunity.

We have continued our celebration of National Science Week with lots of fun and inspiring activities within classrooms this week. Year 1C became rocket scientists and designed, built and launched straw rockets. Using the force of air to create a powerful push, they tested how far our rockets could travel while exploring the effects of pushes, pulls, gravity, friction, and motion. There were lots of predictions, discoveries, and excited cheers as rockets zoomed through the air! Meanwhile, in 1N, Harriet delivered an entertaining and informative procedure to the class about volcanos. Her volcanic eruptions left everyone enthralled! Onward and upward kids 🌠🚀

Eisteddfod week for our singing choirs starts this week. Please make sure you have checked Parent Orbit for all the details about travelling to and from the MECC and ensure you have the correct time and dates. The Eisteddfod times are impossible to predict so unless you are straight up at 8:30am, it's all a guessing game. Uniform - Red sport shirt and sport shorts, clean and polished black shoes and correct ankle white socks. Hair well groomed and off your face, with school coloured ties and ribbons only. Parking can be an issue so please make sure you allow plenty of time. Don't wait outside after you have dropped your child to their teacher as some sessions will sell out and they may not let you in if the section has begun. Let's go team SFX!
