Hi everyone, we haven’t posted on here for a while. I believe there are still books and Mackay West items available from the school. Contact them directly [email protected] for information.

Today I found out that our beautiful Lone Pine Tree on the Senior campus has died ! This tree was planted back in around 2006 . Arthur Ware had ordered the seedlings one for each campus ! All that is left today is this !
Personally I was devasted because I had instigated the purchase to commemorate our ANZACS ! I guess 20 years is pretty long time !
Hopefully we can find another to replace it ..........

It is with sadness, yet deep gratitude for a life well-lived, that we share the passing of Jean Clare Wright (1928 - 2025).

Jean's life was woven with love for family. Last year, she had the special honour of cutting the Mackay West State School Centenary cake in 2024, as the eldest past student to have attended the school. It was a moment that beautifully connected the generations from the earliest days of South Ward School, established in 1924 on Bridge Road, through to today's students who continue to learn and grow on the same ground.

Jean lived her later years at St Francis of Assisi Home in Mackay alongside her sister (also an honoured guest at the Centenary events), where her kindness and strength of spirit were treasured by all who knew her.

Her family and friends remember her as a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. She was known for her resourcefulness, sewing, and crocheting skills.

Jean's legacy is one of love, resilience, and community. She will be dearly missed, but her story will forever remain part of Mackay West history and in our hearts.

Books and other items are available on Friday mornings at the P&C room. Come via the school office when entering school grounds.
