Women arrived from Australia, Canada, the UK, and the US in July, either returning, joining for the first time, or stepping into a creative conversation they’d never had before. This reel captures the essence of our conversation theme for July.

Thank you to everyone who leaned in to help create the runsheet, say ‘yes’ to reading from your manuscript and poetry, and to all who have joined a Blue Borage Conversation Café since we began in January 2025 — it is your courage, creativity, and presence that makes such conversation become more comfortable and possible, as it connects to the hidden taboo of sibling s3xual trauma and abuse.

For six months, a small group of women, survivors of SSTA, have been quietly exploring Letting Go: The Pathway to Surrender by Dr David Hawkins — moving through every emotional level from shame at the bottom, through fear, grief, anger, pride, and into the mid‑line of courage, all the way toward love.

Susan called it a pilot program, and the initial intent of covering 2 chapters a fortnight was very soon thrown out the window. The pace slowed down, 1 chapter a fortnight, and the program is not done with yet, we will close out, together, in early November.

It has been the most open-hearted experiment in curiosity, awareness, and gentle self‑observation.

In August's Blue Borage Conversation Cafe, two special guests, members of that pilot group — Mandy (social worker, siblingintimateharm.com) and Marie (psychologist) will join Susan to share what they’ve learned about letting go after sibling sexual trauma and abuse. A third lived‑experience guest may also join us. Their insights come from lived experience, professional practice, and six months of sitting with Hawkins’ premise:

How do we remove the inner blocks to happiness, love, and success?

The magic of this pilot program is that it's an experiment, no expected results, we were simply exploring Letting Go, together.

In this Conversation Café, we explore:
- What “letting go” means after SSTA
- What we fear losing when we consider letting go
- What we might need to surrender
- How grief, fear, anger, and pride show up in the journey from shame to love
- Why some emotions required pausing or revisiting
- How curiosity can be safer than control
- The difference between letting go of people and letting go of patterns
- What begins to shift when we stop trying to have it all together.
- How lived‑experience people describe the moment something inside finally shifts

The conversation is guided and rich with lived experience wisdom, authenticity and curiosity. Registration is open on Eventbrite via the Linktree. Spaces are limited.

In this small group, I’m watching women explore letting go in a way that feels grounded, safe, and vulnerably human. The colour returns to faces. Shoulders drop. The Zoom screen is a mix of emotions, including laughter, as early as 6am for me and 9pm for those, including Marie, in London. There’s a growing comfort in knowing we can bring awareness of SSTA with us, there is no pretence required, while also discovering the parts of ourselves that were never lost. We’re co‑creating something uniquely beautiful — a place where becoming is still possible.

Marie’s reflection:

“Looking at and thinking together about emotions and behaviours has given me agency… I don’t want it to stop!”

Thank you for being here.

When you share something special for the first time, the work has a way of meeting people — and meeting you — in powerful ways.

“In this group, we all have such a sacred place, and we seem to hold that space for each other. I feel we support each other without even a thought. To have people brought together by lived‑experience trauma, and to support each other — walking with each other on this letting‑go journey — is one of the most amazing things I have ever been part of.” - Mandy M.

Creative practice often begins with a notebook, a voice memo, a scrap of paper, a moment alone, and what it makes possible is profound.

As Wendy shared in one of our recent planning sessions for the Conversation Cafés:

“It’s our soul processing our life. It’s communicating our stories with ourselves first.”

This month, we’re widening the lens, and together we will step into the bigger picture of expression, agency and cultural change.

We’ll open with a small panel of community members who use creative practice in their healing and advocacy, then move into a facilitated conversation for all who attend.

If you’re exploring your voice — or reclaiming it — you’re welcome here.

“Our stories need somewhere to go.” — Alice Perle, author of Resolve

Next Wednesday’s Blue Borage Conversation Café turns toward the creative pathways many survivors walk long before they ever speak publicly. Writing, journaling, poetry, art, voice — these are not hobbies. They are how we metabolise what we’ve lived.

For many of us, creativity becomes the first safe place our story can be expressed.
However that creativity looks, it becomes a turning point, the way of hearing ourselves clearly for the first time.

This month's Conversation Café begins with a small panel of community members who use creative practice in their healing and advocacy, followed by a round of facilitated conversation.

If you’ve ever scribbled poems in the dark, written in the margins or underlined words of other people’s memoirs or research, or you've carried a story that is ready to be set free — this space is for you.

“Recognising that people’s reactions don’t belong to you is the only sane way to create.” — Elizabeth Gilbert, author of Big Magic

One of the hardest parts of speaking about intrafamilial harm is not the speaking — it’s the letting go.

It is the letting go of how others respond and of the silence, the disbelief, the discomfort, and the minimising.

Creative expression invites a different posture: a freer and braver one.

Once our words are written or spoken, they have their own life. They go where they go and they touch who they touch. The writer sets their words free, with great vulnerability and courage, to let them go do what good they can in the world, without ever knowing how many people they touch.

Next week’s Blue Borage Conversation Café explores how writing, art, journaling and voice become pathways of validation, clarity and cultural change — especially for those who have spoken and not been heard.

Panel + conversation.
Relaxed. Real. Trauma‑aware.

July Conversation Café — Background Reflections

There is a moment in every survivor’s life when the story inside us begins to press against the edges of silence. Sometimes it happens early, or only after decades of holding everything together for everyone else.

Over the past few months in our Conversation Cafés, we’ve been circling around the terrain of what happens after disclosure — the shockwaves, the family fractures, the grief of being believed or not believed, the disorientation of finally speaking after decades of silence. These conversations have been necessary, grounding, and real. They’ve also shown me something important: many of us are ready to widen the lens.

We are ready to talk about the ways we have told it or are thinking about telling it.

Not just the moment of disclosure or the aftermath. But the long, slow, courageous work of finding a voice — and then deciding what to do with it.

When creativity becomes a turning point is our focus this July. We have Dr Emma Rees moderating and a panel of guest lived experience poets and authors sharing, answering your questions, and every voice is welcome to be heard in this 90-minute facilitated session.
