Hi, I’m Shelby.

I’m navigating midlife one ordinary day at a time.

I’m finding my way through menopause, returning to work in my 50’s, learning who I am now in this new era, walking my way back to myself, and discovering that life doesn’t magically become less chaotic…

…you just become better at finding your calm within it.

Some days we’ll laugh about brain fog and hot flush number 367.

Some days we’ll talk about confidence, emotional safety, grief, gratitude, work, marriage, dogs, gardens and all the beautifully ordinary moments that make up this chapter of life.

If you’ve ever looked around and wondered…

“Is it just me?”

It’s not.

Welcome.

❤️ Shelby

I read something recently about routines and ‘doing the things’

The theory was that if you only do things part time, you only get part time results. If you want true, solid results, you can’t take a day off.

Now this is something that has always sent me into a spin. I was never sure if it’s the perfectionism that leads to procrastination or something else.

But if I missed a day, a week, or in my head ‘fell behind’ I’d spiral..

How that looked for me could be things like not sending out the newsletter because I missed a week, not posting because my post didn’t feel polished enough, not doing stories because there’s not point doing just 1, I wanted to schedule a week of them, so therefore needed to create them all.

Then I realised…

That is hustle culture and that is everything that I go against.

That is push harder, do more, sleep less, get it done at all costs.

I’m here for aligned action, intentional tasks, choosing priorities, setting boundaries to protect my energy and still getting it done.

Self leadership and choosing wisely instead of operating on adrenaline based hustle.

Productivity that runs on adrenaline will burn you out.
Productivity that comes from calm is sustainable.
Calm lets you choose.
Adrenaline makes you react. One is reaction.
One is leadership.

And now I understand why I always felt ick with hustle culture.
That’s now how I lead myself.
I prefer to lead myself at my own pace, to take the time, to respect my body and mind and come from a place of calm, not one that feeds into panic and reactivity.

In my world, steady beats intense.
Calm beats chaos.Choice beats reaction.

What will you choose?

Do you remember who you really are? Before ‘life’ changed you and shaped you? Before you shrunk yourself to fit in or to be palatable? Who you are at your core? The mantra ‘I remember who I am’ will always bring you back home to your true self ❤️.

Forever and a day I’ve talked about change and that we have to make the choice to do it.

And / But WE have to do it ourselves!

There’s not a damn soul on this earth who can change you!

YOU can get help
YOU can be inspired
YOU can find motivation outside of yourself
YOU can learn the tools

But YOU and only YOU can do the work and create true and everlasting change.

This is where radical responsibility steps in and we TAKE OWNERSHIP OF OUR S**T- the good, bad or downright ugly, we OWN OUR S**T.

Then we make the choice to create change
To set better boundaries
To make better choices
To value ourselves
To raise our standards.

This is taking back our personal power
This is standing in our power

THIS is Self Leadership!

Not trends.
Not phases.
Foundations.

This is how self leadership is lived.
