🌼 Wama — a taste of Spring 🌼

Wama (Gruevellia) is a special plant in Martu Ngurra and a big focus of our Term 3 learning.

Easy to spot with its vibrant yellow flowers, Wama produces a sweet, honey like sap that Martu people love to eat. As Spring arrives, it becomes a favourite seasonal treat.

Our students are learning to recognise Wama, understand its place on Country, and connect with the seasonal knowledge that surrounds it. 🌿

IT CALLS ME HOME ❤️💛🖤 🐪

Students and staff at Kunawarritji Campus of Rawa Community School collaborated with Grand Trine Creative to write, record and produce “It Calls Me Home.”

This song is a celebration of the creativity, voices and stories of the incredible students who wrote the lyrics and proudly sing and star in this music video. Their talent, teamwork and connection to Martu Country shine through every part of this project.

A heartfelt thank you to the staff, families, community members and service providers who supported this project. From transporting people and equipment, sharing encouragement, and helping behind the scenes, your generosity and teamwork helped bring our students’ vision to life.

🌼 Term 3 is underway at Rawa Community School! 🐛

Wanyjalpa? Kuul Karti (School time) We’re excited to welcome all our students and families back for a new term of learning, culture and community.

There is lots to look forward to this term, with visits from Fair Game Australia , Grand Trine Creative and Santa Maria College bringing new activities, opportunities and experiences for our students.

Out on Ngurra (Country), the bush foods are in abundance after the cooler weather, and the desert flowers are in bloom, making this a beautiful time of year across Punmu and Kunawarritji.

We can’t wait to see what Term 3 brings as we continue learning together through our Two-Way approach, combining strong cultural knowledge with classroom learning.

📚🌸🌿 Welcome back everyone let’s make it a great term! Yaninpala!

The last few weeks at Rawa Community School have been a hive of activity, with learning taking place in all kinds of ways across our campuses.

Our Murrkangunya students camped at Punmu Yapu, learning the Jukurrpa (dreaming) from Elder Kuru, setting up their own tents, and hunting Lunki for the first time this cold season 🏜️ . In primary, students are building strong sentence-writing skills and enjoying new maths games. Meanwhile, our Kunawarritji students have been out at Well 33 spotting the incredible bird life around them 🐦‍⬛🐦.

From learning on Country to hands-on classroom experiences, every day is an opportunity to learn, grow and connect.

“If you’re going to become true dodgeballers, then you’ve got to learn the five D’s of dodgeball: Dodge, duck, dip, dive, and dodge!” 🏐🔴

Red dirt, big laughs and a whole lot of friendly competition. Our students turned the space out the front of the school into the best dodgeball court in the Western Desert.

Thanks for the equipment Fair Game Australia 💪🏾👊🏾

At Rawa Community School, the Breakfast Program helps ensure students start the day ready to learn.

Each morning, students can access a simple, nutritious breakfast, supporting wellbeing, focus, and attendance. It also creates a calm, welcoming space where students connect with each other and ease into the school day.

The program is also part of our curriculum, running from Nyiti’s (primary) all the way through to Murrkangunya (high school), supporting routines, life skills, and shared responsibility across all year levels.

It’s a small but important program that reflects the strength of the Rawa, making sure every child has what they need to begin the day well.
