Lowanna College is one of three large government secondary education providers in the Latrobe Valley with a clear will to establishing itself as a centre of educational excellence in the Gippsland Region. It is a modern, well appointed single campus college with a student population of 1100 and 130 staff members. The College is located in Newborough and draws its enrolments from Moe/ Newborough, d

istrict towns of Yallourn North, Erica, Rawson, Willow Grove and surrounding rural areas. The College is organised into three Mini Schools which operate from separate areas on the campus and are coordinated by a Head of School and a committed team of coordinators. Each Mini School has its own Teaching and Learning approach directed towards the age group and year levels at which they operate.

This week during Science Week we have been enjoying some different activities in the classroom (and outside of it!). We used our own bodies to power lightbulbs, used mirrors to complete a maze, used light waves to figure out the elements in a star and even how coins can hold water verses oil! 🧪🔬🦠

🏆 STATE SSV GRAND FINALISTS! 🏆

What an incredible effort from our Senior AFL side! 💪🏉 The boys have battled their way through the finals with two outstanding performances:

🔥 Quarter Final: 104–41
🔥 Semi Final: 81–46

And now… GRAND FINAL TIME! 🏆

The boys will take on the best in the state next Tuesday. We couldn’t be prouder of the way they have represented our school, our program and each other. One more game. One more opportunity. 💙

⭐ Congratulations to Liam, Year 11, who has signed into a School-Based Apprenticeship/Traineeship (SBAT) with the support of Head Start. Liam will undertake a Certificate III in Telecommunications Technology whilst working with K.I.S Comms & Cameras and remaining at school part-time. Head Start & Lowanna College wish Liam all the best as he gets his career 'Head Start!' 👏

Congratulations to Year 9 student Chase who was presented with the Australian Scout Award on Monday. The Australian Scout Award is the highest achievement in the Scout section, requiring Scouts to demonstrate leadership, outdoor skills and personal development. Chase's progress log tells an extraordinary story of adventure:

- He has logged an impressive 101 kilometres of hiking and spent 53 nights camped out under the stars.
- He has built strong outdoor adventure skills across bushcraft, bushwalking and camping, alongside taking on challenges in paddling, cycling, alpine and vertical.
- He’s tackled diverse special interest areas, ranging from adventure sport and environment to STEM innovation and community service.

Beyond the badges and logbooks, working towards this award has helped Chase grow immensely as a person. It has developed his teamwork skills, teaching him how to share his own knowledge with others and support his patrol.

Whether attending events like the Australian Scout Jamboree as a youth patrol leader, abseiling down a 30-metre natural cliff face or leading his unit to win the flagpole competition at Scout Fest, Chase embodies what it means to be a true Scout. Congratulations Chase! ⭐
