NEW FENCE UPDATE:

Our beloved school fence is finally getting some much-needed attention, and we are very excited to see this upgrade underway.

After years of loyal service, a few bends, and what appears to be a surprise visit from Thor’s hammer, it was time for a fresh start. We’ll be forwarding the repair bill to Asgard.

Keep an eye on our page as we share the progress of our fence upgrade, before, during and after style.

We can’t wait to see the finished result!

CLASSROOM SPOTLIGHT:

During NAIDOC Week, our Prep students learnt about the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander flags with Mr Furse.

They explored what the colours and symbols represent, visited the flags at the front of our school, and coloured their own flags while sharing thoughtful discussions.

A wonderful learning experience for our youngest students.

NAIDOC ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE AWARDS:

Congratulations to Zali on being recognised in the 2026 South East Region NAIDOC Student Academic Excellence Roll Call.

Zali is one of only 47 First Nations students across the South East Region to receive this outstanding academic recognition.

This award celebrates students who achieved an ‘A’ grade in at least five learning areas, including English, Mathematics and Science, across both semesters in 2025.

What an incredible achievement, Zali. We are very proud of you!

50 YEARS OF DEADLY:

This NAIDOC Week, we asked some of our Indigenous students a very special question:

“Why is it deadly to be Indigenous?”

Their responses were powerful, proud and full of heart. They shared what culture, connection, strength and identity mean to them.

We are proud to celebrate the voices of our students and the deadly culture they carry with them every day.

CLASSROOM SPOTLIGHT:

During Enrichment Week, our Year 6 students explored Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ deep connection to Country and the important ways they care for the land.

In Technologies, students used this learning to design and create a robot claw with a purpose: helping to care for our school environment by picking up rubbish.

This hands-on challenge encouraged students to think creatively, problem solve and apply their technology skills in a meaningful way, while reflecting on how we can all play a part in caring for Country and keeping our environment clean.

A wonderful example of learning, innovation and respect in action.

ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF COUNTRY:

This week, WDSS is proud to share our updated Acknowledgement of Country.

This special Acknowledgement was developed together with some of our Indigenous students, helping to ensure their voices, ideas and cultural pride were part of the process.

We are proud to continue recognising and respecting the Traditional Custodians of the land on which we learn, play and grow each day.
