A year and a half ago, I decided to believe in something that felt a little ridiculous.

I was going to run every Abbott World Marathon Major.

I was 17 years post-brain injury, a back-of-the-pack runner, and had absolutely no idea how I was going to make it happen.

But I decided to believe it anyway.

And then I started making decisions like the woman who was actually going to do it.

Funny thing about believing something is possible and then consistently showing up for it…

I’m now running about 3 minutes per mile faster than I was 18 months ago.

And today I’m in Australia, getting ready to run World Major #2 in Sydney—with #3 and #4 already on my calendar for 2027. 🥹🏃‍♀️

That’s why I love this idea so much.

Pick a Friday six months from now and put:

“Everything Worked Out Celebration Dinner”

on your calendar.

Not because putting something on your calendar magically makes it happen.

But because there’s something powerful about deciding the future you want is possible—and then beginning to live like you believe it.

Especially in this season of life.

Gen X women, we are NOT too old.
We are NOT too late.
And the best parts of our story do not have to be behind us.

Sometimes the first step is simply giving yourself permission to believe:

What if it really does work out?

So tell me—if we were sitting together at your “Everything Worked Out” dinner six months from now, what would we be celebrating? ❤️

MARATHON MONDAY 🏃🏼‍♀️✈️🇦🇺

12 days until the Sydney Marathon.

I fly to Australia TOMORROW. 😳

And somehow I simultaneously feel like…

How is the marathon already here?!

and

Haven’t I been training for this race for approximately 47 years?! 😂

Maybe because these have also been some of the most chaotic, emotional and life-changing seven months of my life.

There were long runs squeezed into weeks when life felt completely overwhelming.

Runs after very little sleep.

Runs when I was grieving.

Runs when it was ridiculously hot.

Runs I absolutely did not feel like doing.

And plenty of workouts that looked nothing like what I originally pictured when I started this training cycle.

But I kept showing up.

This morning I had one of my final short speed workouts before Sydney, and do you know what I caught myself thinking about?

My training schedule for the Marine Corps Marathon in October. 😂🤦🏼‍♀️

Apparently my response to finishing months of marathon training is…

“Okay, but what are we training for next?”

And maybe THAT is the lesson from this Marathon Monday.

Goals have a funny way of carrying us through seasons when everything else feels uncertain.

You don’t have to be the fastest.
You don’t have to have a perfect training cycle.
You don’t even have to feel motivated most days.

You just have to keep putting the next thing on the calendar and keep moving toward it.

Sydney, I’m coming for you. 🇦🇺

But first…apparently it takes approximately 147 items to transport one 54-year-old marathon runner across the world. 😂

Here’s a few of the things coming with me for the next 14 days.

Save this for your next destination race ✈️🏃🏼‍♀️ and tell me: what’s the ONE running essential you would absolutely panic if you forgot?

This year, Rob was in charge of my ENTIRE birthday. 😂

No hints.
No detailed instructions.
No carefully curated plans.

Just… Rob.

And somehow that led to:

💚 A cake covered in green frosting
🎉 Funfetti flavor
🕯️ Zero birthday candles
😂 And Andrew bringing in a FULL-SIZE CANDLE for me to blow out

And honestly?

It was perfect.

Not Pinterest perfect.
Not Instagram perfect.

Just funny, memorable, very us… and one of those moments I know I’ll laugh about forever.

I think that’s one of the best parts of getting older.

You stop needing everything to look perfect and start appreciating the stories you’ll actually remember.

Gen X wives, I need to know…

What happened the last time your husband was “in charge”? 😂
