What are students really doing at Young Engineers?

Looks like play? Look closer 🤓

There’s a model being built on the table. But there’s a whole lot more happening behind it.

A student is thinking through a problem.
Remembering what they’ve just learned.
Working with others.
Trying something that might not work.
Finding another way when it doesn't.
And experiencing what it feels like to work something out for themselves.

At Young Engineers, LEGO® and building are the tools. What we're really building is curiosity, creativity, critical thinking, resilience and confidence.

So yes, it looks like a lot of fun.
That's kind of the point. 😉

Ever wondered how THAT works?

Cars. Cranes. Lifts. Amusement park rides 🚘🎡🏗️

The world around us is full of engineering, even if we don't always stop to notice it.

At Young Engineers, we take those real-world ideas and put them into students' hands.

A gear isn't just a gear when you can see what it makes happen.

A lever makes a lot more sense when you've just used one.

And forces, motion and mechanical advantage become much more interesting when they're making your model work.

That's the fun part.

What does an engineering concept look like? 👀

On paper, things like force, motion, gears and mechanical advantage can sound pretty abstract.

Then you build them.
Suddenly, a student isn't just hearing about how a mechanism works.
They can see it.
Touch it.
Put it to work.

That's one of our favourite things about Young Engineers.

We take ideas that exist in textbooks and in the world around us, and give students the chance to experience them for themselves.

Because some things make a whole lot more sense when they're right there in your hands.

The finished model is cool. But we’re much more interested in everything that happened before it 🤓

The idea that needed rethinking.

The part that didn’t quite work.

The conversation with a teammate.

The tiny adjustment that finally fixed it.

And, of course, the VERY important test to see if it actually works 😁

That’s where so much of the learning happens at Young Engineers.

The build is what students take home in their heads. The thinking behind it is what stays with them.

It's amazing what children can achieve when they build it themselves.

Week after week, our students bring engineering concepts to life through hands-on models that move, lift, spin, and solve real-world challenges.

But the model is only part of the story.

With every lesson, they're learning to think critically, persevere through challenges, and turn ideas into reality.

One build at a time.

Not every lesson ends with the same result.

Give a group of students the same challenge and you'll often get very different approaches.

Different ideas.
Different questions.
Different ways of thinking.

And that's one of the things we love most about engineering.

There's rarely just one way to solve a problem.
Young Engineers gives students the opportunity to explore, experiment, and discover solutions in their own way.

Because learning isn't about finding the "right" answer.

It's about learning how to think.

The answer isn't the goal.

One of the things we love most about Young Engineers is that students don't just follow instructions.

They test ideas.
They make mistakes.
They try again.

Sometimes a model doesn't work the first time.

Sometimes it takes a few adjustments, a different approach, or a little persistence to figure it out.

And that's exactly where some of the best learning happens.

Because while engineering concepts matter, learning how to think through a challenge, adapt, and keep going is a skill students will use for life.

At Young Engineers, the finished model is only part of the story.

The thinking behind it is where the real magic happens.

Holiday Camps are in full swing, and we're so excited 🚀

The bright eyes when something suddenly makes sense. The quiet focus when a model starts coming together. The proud smile when it finally works.

Because our camps are never just about keeping children busy during the holidays.

They're about showing students how the world works, one hands-on challenge at a time.

How things move.Why things balance. What makes a model come to life.

Every child learns differently.

Some jump straight into building. Some like to observe first. Some ask a hundred questions, while others need a little encouragement to find their voice.

By keeping our class sizes small, our educators can get to know each child, support their individual learning style, and help build confidence every step of the way.
