A special thank you to everyone who participated in our Footy Colours Day and annual Relay for Life event last Friday.

It was an amazing day where students, parents and staff had fun running, walking and connecting in the amazing spring weather, all while helping a cause close to our hearts.

We look forward to sharing the final numbers on the funds raised for the Cancer Council early in Term 4. In the meantime, we hope you enjoy the Grand Final long weekend and the final week of school holidays.

Last week we launched our new online alumni portal, designed for our former students to connect, engage and stay informed.

This will become the central hub for alumni communications and the ONLY space alumni will be able to browse through photos from cherished school moments and reunions.

Additionally, it provides a platform to explore job opportunities, stay updated on upcoming events and reunions, share achievements and foster deeper connections with peers.

We encourage all our BGS Alumni to sign-up and keep in touch with out community.

Happy Father's Day to all the dedicated school dads and father figures who juggle drop-offs, school events and cheering from the sidelines! Your presence makes our school community stronger.

It was wonderful to see everyone enjoying the annual Father's Day breakfast on Friday and we extend a huge thanks to the PFC and all the volunteers who ensured the event was a success.

Two weeks ago, our Snow Team proudly represented Balcombe Grammar at the Victorian Interschools Championship in Mount Buller.

Junior, intermediate and senior competitors took to the slopes in a true mix of alpine conditions, with our students showing resilience, determination and plenty of school spirit. It was particularly fantastic to see several students take on the challenge of racing for the very first time. Competing alongside experienced racers and members of clubs from over 230 schools is no small achievement, and our students should be incredibly proud of the way they embraced the experience.

A highlight of the championships was an outstanding performance from one of our junior competitors, Cole, who won the Snowboard Boardercross event! This fantastic result meant he went on to the Australian Championships held this week at Perisher in New South Wales.

Cole competed in three events, and we are excited to report, he secured a Silver in the Junior Boys Snowboard Boardercross and a Bronze in the Junior Boys Snowboard Slopestyle. An amazing achievement competing against some of the best young snowboarders from across Australia and we are thrilled to see Balcombe Grammar represented on the national podium - twice!

We extend our congratulations to the entire Snowsports team for braving the conditions, supporting one another and representing our school with pride.

Congratulations Balcombe Grammar community.

We raised $1,138 for The Epilepsy Foundation from last week's Free Dress Day and sales from the delicious Purple Sparkle Cookies our Rotary Interact students made for the occasion.

We will aim to double the amount of sparkle next time round.

Inspiring our young entrepreneurs...

The B.I.T.E. (Business, Innovation, Technology, Efficiency) Conference is the Mornington Peninsula's premier business event, with this year's program featuring keynote speakers, discussion panels, and a business expo focused on AI, automation, and business growth. It was a valuable opportunity for two of our Year 10 students to hear directly from high-profile business leaders, including Olympic gold medallist and CEO Grant Hackett, who shared how the mental discipline and resilience behind his swimming career translated into building high-performing business teams. It was a great chance for our students to see real-world applications of the concepts covered in Year 10 Entrepreneurship.

Students reflected on the day....

'If I had one highlight from this experience, it would definitely be seeing Rocko the humanoid robot, who in the future will be core to assisting businesses in their everyday tasks through AI. I would highly recommend this conference to students who are willing to explore new ideas and ways of thinking, as it can be very beneficial for the future and can open up new pathways in life.'

What an incredible start to Busking for Change 2026!

Since launching our fundraising, Balcombe Grammar School has already climbed into the TOP 5 schools on the leaderboard.

Our Primary students have been busy learning Minyan Ngabangka (What's in the Water?), this year's Busking for Change song. Featuring English and Murrawarri language, the song was created by DOBBY, Kelsey Iris and children from Brewarrina and celebrates Community, Country and language.

There is also a special story behind the water connection. Brewarrina is home to Baiame's Ngunnhu (Fish Traps), an extraordinary Aboriginal structure dating back more than 40,000 years. The fish traps demonstrate the Community's deep and enduring connection to the river and Country.

Now we'd love our whole Balcombe Grammar community - Primary and Secondary students, staff and families - to get behind us.

Our goal is to raise $1,000 for the Indigenous Literacy Foundation. Students are encouraged to check with their families about donating $1 or $2 and to spread the word to grandparents, relatives and family friends who may also like to support our campaign.

Every small donation adds up and helps children in remote Communities access and create books, including books in First Languages.

Thank you to everyone who has already donated. Let's keep the music playing and the donations growing!

Stitching Stories with Local Artist Eleesa Howard...

On Wednesday 29 July, our Year 11 Visual Art students had the exciting opportunity to work alongside Mornington Peninsula artist Eleesa Howard, exploring the creative possibilities of embroidery, soft sculpture, and contemporary fibre arts.

During the workshop, students moved beyond traditional drawing and painting, experimenting with stitching, fabric, and texture to create expressive artworks.

Students were praised for their enthusiasm and willingness to embrace new challenges. Eleesa was so impressed by how our students jumped straight into the stitching and really thought about what they were making. She said it was lovely to see the different directions they each took, the outcomes were all so unique.

Bronze medal at the SIS Teen Chef competition..

The annual Southern Independent Schools (SIS) Teen Chef competition was held last Thursday 30 July at John Paul College in Frankston.

A culinary event for secondary students across members schools in Victoria, teams prepare a range of creative main and dessert dishes which are evaluated by professional chefs from the Australian Culinary Federation.

This year, the Balcombe Grammar team competed against 13 other schools from our region and scored between 70-80 out of a possible 100 points for their kitchen skills and final dishes.

We congratulate our students, Noah Finn, Louie Bryne, Iris Bocskor and Zara Dean, who represented the school with pride, performing to a high standard and enjoying the experience.
