This week is National Children’s Book Week. This is an important celebration on our annual calendar celebrating the joy that comes from literature of all kinds.

Together we will be enjoying week-long celebrations embracing the 2026 theme; β€œSymphony of Stories”.

Today staff and students began the week by dressing up as a character from a picture story book and participated in sessions focusing on a variety of wonderful stories to evoke joy and to spark imagination. These sessions occurred in multiage settings where students had chosen two picture story book experiences of their own choice to engage in.

We are so grateful to have celebrated our 2026 Book Week costumes, alongside so many of the treasured adults from within our community, at our Book Week Parade this morning.

Thank you to everyone who supported and encouraged the children to embrace the joy of National Book Week, to celebrate their favourite stories and to share in the magic of reading.

It was the 100th day of school life for the children at Emmaus in Foundation today.Β 

These precious children continue to inspire us every day with their inquisitive minds, their determination to learn, their infectious love for life and optimistic attitudes.Β 

The children were immersed in all things 100 today and celebrated the day in style with an abundance of joy and love.

β€˜Vornda’ means Joy in Wadawurrung language and is the name of our entire Foundation learning community.

We held our Emmaus STEM MAD showcase today.

Using Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics, students in Years 5&6 created a prototype of something they believe could Make A Difference in our world.

Themes included sustainability, civics and citizenship, economics, geography, wellbeing and innovation.

Prototypes ranged from future cities, to Apps that support mental health like dementia, to sustainable energy, water saving, and community online resources for natural disasters; amongst many more.

Today we acknowledged the Feast of St Joachim and St Anne, the grandparents of Jesus, by welcoming our own grandparents to school.

We celebrated with a community liturgy and time with our families in learning communities together.

We gave thanks for the wisdom, care and guidance offered to us by our grandparents and honoured the role they play in our lives.

It was a privilege to welcome these special family members to Emmaus; to pray and play together.

Today we welcomed Aunty Kim, a proud Wadawurrung woman, to help us celebrate NAIDOC Week with a smoking ceremony and Welcome to Country.

This week we especially honour and celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture, histories and achievements. Each day we will engage in learning activities to grow our awareness, and our commitment to a more reconciled Australia.

We acknowledge all First Peoples of the beautiful land on which we live, learn and love.

Today at Emmaus we acknowledged, and celebrated, Bounce 4 Batten. Beautiful little Isla Hunter, sister of two of our students, Paddy (Mok-borreeyn) and Harry (Nyereeka) lives with Batten Disease, a terminal illness.

We bounced all day to raise awareness and to bounce for those that can no longer do so independently.

Each learning community jumped on mini trampolines for the entire day, with students taking it in turns to ensure we bounced non stop from the start of school until the end of the school day.

We all wore a touch of teal or blue in recognition of Bounce 4 Batten.

We were blessed with Isla’s presence for part of the day.

The theme for National Reconciliation Week, β€˜All In for Reconciliation’, is a concept we draw our attention to, in being a part of the healing process with our First Nations People.

Emmaus is committed to the work of truth telling and reconciliation. We also commit to living gently, respectfully and sustainably on this country, Wadawurrung country.

Our Reconciliation Action Plan supports us to provide cultural safety and inclusion for all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander members within our community.

Today the Year 5&6 students from St Columba’s and Emmaus came together to launch our collaborative STEM MAD (Making A Difference) initiative. The work over the coming months will involve small groups of students designing and creating a project that will support an aspect of society the students feel is lacking.

As part of our launch, we explored in workshops several design and technology tools: AI, Coding, Virtual Reality, Micro bits, and 3D modelling that students might engage with in designing and building their project.

This initiative will culminate with the National STEM MAD Exhibition in Sydney later in the year where selected groups of students from both schools will present their work.
