Reconciliation Action Week- 27 May to 3 June 2025
Federation Childrenās Centres are proud to take part in Reconciliation Action Week, a meaningful time for reflection, respect, and learning. This week we will be engaging children in age-appropriate experiences that explore and celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories, cultures, and contributions.
This important week aligns with our ongoing commitment to inclusion, diversity, and reconciliation, guided by the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) and the National Quality Standard (NQS). In particular, we focus on:
ā¢ Fostering a strong sense of identity and belonging (Outcome 1, EYLF)
ā¢ Encouraging respect for diversity and the rights of others
ā¢ Embedding Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives in everyday learning
Throughout the week, children took take part in:
ā¢ Ballarat Art Gallery incursion for both our kindergarten programs with Dr Deanne Gilson a proud Wadawurrung women, multidisciplinary visual artist and Blak designer
ā¢ Shared storytelling using Dreaming narratives and picture books
ā¢ Collaborative art inspired by First Nations symbols and styles
ā¢ Music and movement activities with traditional songs and instruments
ā¢ Acknowledgements of Country during group times, we do this on an ongoing basis
ā¢ Discussions about fairness, respect, and community
We invite families to support these efforts at home by engaging in conversations, reading together, or sharing your own family stories and traditions.
Together, we can grow a generation of children who understand, appreciate, and actively contribute to a more inclusive and reconciled Australia.
