THE MESSY MIDDLE

I was speaking with a first time mum during the week, her baby is about 7 months old. She was sharing with me how she could recognise that her sense of self had split since becoming a mother.

As she is currently learning about matrescence she understands the idea of the "Inner Split" but she had an expectation that this split would be neat and tidy. That there would instantly be the "who she was before" and then the "who I am now I am a mum".

And yet, the reality was she knew she had split but she couldn't see who she was now.

This is the stage I call "The Messy Middle". The time when nothing seems to make sense. The time when everything feels ... messy!

This "messy middle" is a part of going through transition and change, and yet we don't talk enough about it.

If you can relate to this feeling, this messy middle, know that you are not alone. Know that it is important. Know that it won't last forever. Know that when you leave the messy middle there will be the new version of you waiting.

Live music fills my cup.

Tonight I went to this gig with a friend. I didn't know anything about the band.

They were playing at my local theatre. That was all I needed.
