For years, it felt like we were living paycheque to paycheque…. Because we actually were

The money was there…

but it seemed to disappear in a heartbeat.

Every time I thought we were finally getting on top of things,

Another bill or something unexpected would happen & we’d be right back where we started.

Round and round we’d go! A never-ending battle.

And because I was the accountant (the one who was supposed to be good with money) I felt responsible.

But instead I was pretty embarrassed really

But feeling ashamed and pretending it was fine, didn’t really help me change anything.

What I needed to do was swallow my pride (and my ego) and ask for help.

I needed to be realistic, look at what was happening and then set some ground rules.

Only then could we start to make different decisions.

Not perfect decisions. But still forward decisions.

Curious - how do you feel about using cash v’s card?

Card makes it super quick and easy. We want to slow down the purchasing process to give yourself a bit of time to think, feel and decide.

Let me know what you think!

Is cash still king for your budget? 💵

Accountant Erin Davis says swapping physical cash for quick "tap and go" payments is making it far too easy to lose track of our spending.

"Handing over a $50 note makes you feel the transaction."

With cash usage actually rising for the first time in years, many Aussies are holding tight to physical notes to manage their household budgets.

Do you still carry cash for your everyday shopping, or have you fully made the switch to digital payments?

You didn't decide this, but somehow you ended up here anyway.

Nobody sits down and chooses a smaller life.

It happens over time without even realising it.

One little decision at a time.

You don't put your prices up because the client's been loyal.

You don't chase the invoice because it feels awkward.

You pull money out of the business when you need it instead of paying yourself a proper wage....

Because sorting that out is a whole thing and you've got enough on already.

Every one of these can seem reasonable or even sensible on its own.

But when stack years of these decisions you end up somewhere that feels completely off track.

The tricky part is that from the inside it looks like being realistic.

You stop noticing opportunities because you've stopped expecting any.

Someone else's win stops being a possibility and becomes a fact about them. "Good for her. Different situation."

You're not playing small on purpose. You just haven't questioned it in a really long time.

Looking at your money is hard. But so is not looking at it.

Time to choose your hard!

You're allowed to want more, even when nothing is wrong.

Comment RICH and I'll send you where I'd start.

You’re capable of way more than you think

Training is hard and not every day feels good or easy

But crossing that finish line, with a smile on your face, feeling good - that makes all those long training hours worth it

You don’t get good at anything by sitting on the sidelines wishing to be better - you get better by getting out there and showing up for yourself…

No matter how hard it gets

Things I always do at the start of the month

1. Update our net worth summary (I keep an easy spreadsheet which lists everything we own and owe - the difference between the two is our net worth)

2. Review our expenses for last month

3. Decide our money goal for next month

Because when you track, you come focused!

Financial stability is important to us

It’s the last day of the month… that means it’s review time (again)

Look at last months spending - no judgement, just notice! Then make some decisions about where you want to spend in June

Because it’s the little things that add up to make the big differences.
