Times Tables
During the long school holidays, practise times tables with your kids. If they can’t respond immediately with the answer, they need more practise. Without rapid recall of times tables, maths is harder than it should be.
Some ideas:
Focus on one set per day.
Write them out, include division so they know that division is the opposite of multiplication.
Whenever they claim to be bored call out random questions.
Praise them when they get it 👏 try not to get frustrated if they forget an answer (it’s hard) because then they will get cranky and stop trying. I know from experience 😬.
Good luck 🍀
Look for books in the newsagent that have repetition of times tables. These ones are great.
By Year 5 they should know up to 12.
Year 3 should at least know 2, 3 and 5s. That’s just a guide, they can learn them all within a few weeks if you hammer it.
