This week, our Kinder children have been exploring Vietnam and learning about Vietnamese culture. We are incredibly fortunate to have one of our Kinder teachers, Emma, share her own cultural heritage and personal experiences with the children.

Together, the children discovered where Vietnam is on the map, learned about the Vietnamese flag, and explored some of the delicious foods that are enjoyed throughout the country. Today, they had the wonderful opportunity to make mochi, a special treat that holds fond childhood memories for Emma, as her grandmother would make it for her when she was young.

Experiences like these help children develop an appreciation for different cultures, traditions, and family stories, while encouraging curiosity, respect, and a deeper understanding of the diverse world around them.

Exploring Albanian Culture in Kinder

Our Kinder children have been enjoying learning about Albanian culture through a hands-on and engaging experience led by Susie, who has an Albanian background. Susie brought in a collection of traditional trinkets and cultural items, giving the children an opportunity to explore and discuss their significance.

The children then became little chefs as Susie taught them how to make a traditional Albanian spinach pie. They also discovered how ricotta cheese can be made from scratch, learning about the simple ingredients and process involved. This wonderful cooking experience encouraged curiosity, built practical life skills, and introduced the children to different cultural traditions through food.

Exploring diverse cultures helps children develop an appreciation for the world around them, fostering respect, inclusion, and a sense of belonging within our learning community.

Our Nursery, Toddler, and Kindergarten children had a wonderful time celebrating Teddy Bear Picnic Day with their favourite cuddly companions! The children enjoyed bringing their special teddy bears along for a day full of fun, imaginative play, and shared adventures with their friends. To make the celebration even sweeter, everyone had the opportunity to decorate their own teddy bear biscuits, which they happily enjoyed together for afternoon tea. It was a delightful day filled with smiles, creativity, and plenty of teddy bear cuddles!

Growing and Caring for Our Environment

Our Kinder children have been exploring the wonderful world of plants and learning about what they need to grow and thrive. As part of their learning, they planted their own seeds and are excited to observe the changes over time, developing an understanding of the plant life cycle through hands-on experience.

The children also enjoyed helping Chrissie beautify our outdoor environment by transplanting grassy plants into the garden. This meaningful experience encouraged teamwork, responsibility, and a sense of pride in caring for our shared spaces while fostering a deeper connection with nature.

NAIDOC Week Nursery Painting Sticks

To recognise and celebrate NAIDOC Week, the children created their own painting sticks inspired by Aboriginal art and storytelling traditions. Through this hands-on experience, they explored patterns, colours, symbols, and natural materials while learning about the importance of First Nations cultures, connection to Country, and creative expression.

This activity encouraged conversations about respect, belonging, and the rich histories and traditions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. It provided an opportunity for children to celebrate diversity, develop an appreciation for Indigenous perspectives, and express their creativity in a meaningful and age-appropriate way.

On July 1st, Toddler and Nursery recognised Coming of the Light Day, an important day for Torres Strait Islander peoples. The children acknowledged the occasion by creating beautiful flower artworks and exploring the diverse sea life that lives in the surrounding Torres Strait waters with a blue colour rice sensory tub. Through these experiences, the children were introduced to the significance of the day while celebrating the rich culture and natural environment of the Torres Strait Islands.
