*ICA Celebrates 21 Years of Coaching*

A remarkable achievement for us and for the thousands of coaches we have trained.

We think back to the early days, the days before Facebook, or Zoom; the days where online learning was as new and unknown as coaching and we are incredibly grateful for the people who took that leap of faith. People who were looking to discover the best version of themselves. People who were looking to make a difference in the world.

It is to those coaches, our early pioneers and to all the others who have come after them that we raise our glass and say "Thank You"

We hope you enjoy this video we made as a celebration of ALL our students, graduates and amazing Trainers.

Become a Coach in 2022, the world needs coaching now more than ever, and ICA Coaches are perfect for the job!

Ah, the great global network of ICA!

We were so happy to see our two wonderful ICA'ers Caroline Beloe and Julia Griffin catch up in London. So amazing that in this world of seemingly endless lockdowns they managed to connect. They enjoyed a walk by the Thames and a cool drink at an outdoor cafe before skipping into Tate Modern to see Rodin!

We so wish we could have joined you both!

[Inside the Classroom]
Linda De Luca, ICA Faculty

As a coach, I am continually reflecting on how I show up with my client. We all want to create a safe place for our clients. But sometimes, we don’t realize that things get in the way. Some of my coaching routines were created to help me appreciate that I make assumptions based on my own experiences, and I need to remember to appreciate the road my client has traveled is different from my own.

The conversation in a recent class at ICA on ‘Coaching Mindset and Confidence’ brought together a diverse and beautiful group of coaches/students. When discussing which of the 7 recommendations for developing a coaching mindset they would choose to focus on first, several looked at item 3 as a keystone to the others.

And with that message came a number of commitments to learn and grow into the coaching mindset. I can only imagine what impact that will have on the other areas of our lives as well.

❓ What one small thing can you add to your coaching approach that will help you be just 10% more aware of context and culture for you and your client?

The last two years have been an interesting time in the education sector. Watching the world grapple with, then embrace working and learning online has been inspiring. And for us here at ICA, very affirming.

We have an unusual history in that we BEGAN online. Back in 2001, pre Zoom, pre everything really. And since that time we have been delivering world class coach training via an e-learning platform and working in virtual teams with people from over 90 countries around the world. And not because we HAD to, but because we WANTED to. Because we believed then, and we still believe now, that delivering learning online allows the learner to take more control over what they learn when they learn and how they learn it. It can be flexible, self paced and integrated in a way face to face training just cannot.

In a traditional classroom the trainers and institutions control the pace and style of learning. The students rock up and receive. If they have to travel for work, or a child gets sick then they miss that week's class.

In our e-learning platform students choose which module to do next, when to start mentor coaching and how often to participate in Peer Coaching sessions. And our learning follows our students wherever they go, so long as they have a laptop or a phone they can dial in to a class.

All this is normal for us. And now, it seems it is becoming the new normal for everyone else as well. So good.

This article by Howspace is an excellent summary of many of the strategies used at ICA - International Coach Academy to deliver our coach training to thousands of coaches worldwide.

1. Personalized content & connections
2. Learning as an experience and a journey
3. Learning over knowing
4. Understanding and measuring learning impact
5. Inspirational microlearning
6. On the job learning as a priority
7. Leaders as teachers
8. Peer-to-peer learning and learning communities

Trepidation vs. Confidence 13/08/2021

As a coach, the idea of trepidation vs. confidence can look many different ways, depending on what the client brings to you as the coach. In the context I have seen the most, the client comes in with a problem or an idea that they aren’t sure how to resolve or act on. This problem or idea has caused them to spend much of their time thinking, stewing, and stuck on a said problem, such as a career change or what to do after high school.

Trepidation vs. Confidence A Coaching Power Tool Created by Lindsey Sheets Education Coach, UNITED STATES. Trepidation vs. Confidence: It seems we all have been in a place of trepidation. A place where we are worried about our next steps, a “do I stay, or do I go?”

This week in Rob Stringer's class on Effective Feedback (Coaching Presence), a question was asked that might be valuable to our wider community...
" As a Coach, we're not supposed to direct or lead our Clients down paths we think would be beneficial/better, but isn't that what we're doing when we offer feedback?"

The goal of feedback in coaching is not to lead, convince, or persuade Clients, but rather to invite clients to reflect, consider, and better understand themselves. So by remaining unattached and clear on our purpose, our feedback is not leading or directive.
