To help our children feel confident and prepared for our upcoming dentist incursion, we created a fun Dental Clinic role-play experience where children can explore dental care, healthy habits, and what to expect during their visit.

👩‍⚕️👨‍⚕️ Through imaginative play, our little dentists and patients have been practising:

😁 Why brushing and healthy choices are important
💬 How to communicate and ask questions during a dental check-up

This hands-on experience helps children build confidence, reduce uncertainty, and turn a new experience into something exciting and familiar.

Who do you think sank the boat? 🤔

This week, our little learners have been diving into the wonderful story Who Sank the Boat? while building their literacy skills by sequencing the story, predicting what might happen next, and expanding their vocabulary.

To make the learning even more exciting, we paired the story with a sink and float investigation! ⚓💧 The children explored which objects float, which ones sink, and shared their own predictions—sparking curiosity as we get ready for Science Week.

✨ Learning through play helps children develop early literacy, critical thinking, and scientific inquiry—all while having fun!

🌿 Exploring Nature Through Art at CSIROcare 🌸

Our little explorers have been discovering the beauty of nature through a creative process art experience! ✨

Using fresh herbs and flowers, children crushed, touched, smelled, and explored natural materials with mortar and pestles, discovering different textures, colours, and scents along the way.

🌺 Flowers became natural stamps, creating unique patterns, while herbs and leaves inspired children to experiment with new ways of making marks and creating artwork.

Through this hands-on experience, children developed their fine motor skills, sensory awareness, creativity, and confidence while following their curiosity and enjoying the process of creating with nature. 💚

🥚 Humpty Dumpty Learning Experience – Inspired by the classic nursery rhyme, our Humpty Dumpty set-up encouraged children to talk about kindness, empathy, and how we can care for and help others when they need us.

🌊 Ocean Sensory Exploration
Our children in Playroom 1 and Playroom 2 dived into an exciting ocean adventure, exploring sea animals through sensory play.

Through touching, observing, and discovering, children were introduced to new words such as blue, water, ocean, fish, turtle, shark, whale, dolphin, bubbles, splash, and swim.

Our toddlers practised language skills by repeating words, identifying sea animals, and making connections between creatures and their ocean habitat. Our babies engaged their five senses through textures, colours, sounds, and movement—supporting early communication, curiosity, imagination, and sensory development.

🐸 Pond Life Adventure
Our little learners were fascinated by our indoor frog pond, which inspired us to recreate the experience outdoors with a sensory-rich frog habitat. Using natural materials and hydrated chia seeds as "frog spawn", children explored textures, strengthened fine motor skills, and created their own imaginative play stories.

Through scooping, grasping, moving, and investigating, children developed problem-solving skills, creativity, social connections, and a deeper understanding of the natural world.

At our centre, we value children’s voices and believe every conversation can become a meaningful learning opportunity.

During a recent discussion about clothing colours, children shared their ideas about whether certain items were “really pink” and some thoughts about who can wear pink. This sparked a wonderful opportunity to explore colours, personal choices, and different perspectives.

Our “All About Pink” table encouraged children to investigate, create, and share their ideas while building confidence, respect, and understanding.

Through play and conversation, children are learning that colours, interests, and choices can be enjoyed by everyone.

To celebrate the 50th anniversary of NAIDOC Week, the children explored Australian native animals through a hands-on provocation designed to support fine motor development, curiosity, and meaningful conversations.

Through play and exploration, children are developing respect and appreciation for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, histories, and connection to Country.

This year’s theme, “50 Years of Deadly”, celebrates the strength, achievements, culture, and enduring contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

🐷📚 The Three Little Pigs Literacy & Construction Invitation 🏠✨

One of our children’s absolute favourite stories has been The Three Little Pigs, and we extended their interest with a hands-on literacy and construction experience that brought the story to life.

At the table, children were invited with the question:
“Can you build the strongest house for the Three Little Pigs?”

To support their thinking and creativity, we provided:

Images of houses made from straw, sticks, and bricks
Three Little Pigs character dolls
A range of construction materials including hay, sticks, and brick-like elements

Through this provocation, children explored sequencing, storytelling, problem-solving, and early engineering concepts—all through imaginative play.

It was wonderful to see their ideas come to life as they tested, built, rebuilt, and retold the story in their own way. 💡💛

❄️ Winter has arrived in our learning spaces! ❄️

We’ve set up a winter-themed sensory table filled with snowy textures and sparkling snowflakes to encourage children to explore, investigate, and discover the magic of the season.

Through hands-on play, children are learning about seasonal changes, building language skills, and sparking wonderful conversations about winter—what it feels like, looks like, and how it changes our world.
