Science Week at Acorn Acres 🔬🌱
It was a busy and exciting week at Acorn Acres as we celebrated Science Week! Educators and children spent lots of time experimenting, investigating and exploring a variety of hands-on science experiences together.
The children were encouraged to ask questions, make predictions, observe what happened and share their discoveries with one another. It was wonderful to see their curiosity and excitement as they explored how things work and developed their understanding through play and experimentation.

We were also excited to welcome Little Sprouters for an engaging incursion all about seed germination. The children learned about what seeds need to grow and had the opportunity to explore the different stages of a plant's growth.

It was a wonderful week filled with curiosity, discovery, learning and plenty of “I wonder what will happen?” moments! 🌱

During Dental Week, we engaged the children in meaningful discussions about the importance of healthy food choices and good dental hygiene. The children had the opportunity to cut their own fruit, promoting independence while learning about nutritious foods that help keep our teeth and bodies healthy.
We also discussed the importance of brushing our teeth after meals. Following this learning experience, the children brushed their teeth after every meal, and we have continued this practice at the centre to support and promote positive dental hygiene habits 🦷🍎🍓

🌱 Growing, Gardening and Connecting with Nature at Acorn Acres 🌿
At Acorn Acres, we believe children learn best through hands-on experiences and meaningful connections with the natural environment.

Over the past couple of weeks, both our Kinder and Bowie Room children have continued to explore and engage in gardening experiences. Through planting, caring for and observing plants, the children are developing an understanding of how things grow and change, while learning about the importance of caring for our environment.

Gardening provides wonderful opportunities for children to slow down, get their hands in the soil, observe nature and develop a sense of responsibility and connection to the world around them. 🌱

At Acorn Acres, we are continuing to support children’s understanding of dental hygiene and the importance of caring for their teeth.
Across each room, children have been exploring dental hygiene through a range of engaging, hands-on experiences. These experiences have encouraged children to learn about healthy teeth, toothbrushing, making healthy food choices, and developing positive dental care routines.
Recently, we were also fortunate to welcome a dental service to Acorn Acres. The visit provided children with an opportunity to further develop their knowledge about dental health and learn from dental professionals in an engaging and meaningful way. 🦷

In the Wadhan Room, children have been exploring the changing seasons and discovering how nature transforms throughout the year. As part of their learning, our educators and children created a beautiful Winter Family Tree using coloured acorn leaves to represent the colours and changes we see during the winter season.
