Celebrating 150yrs of Mitchells Island Public School This year (2019) marks Mitchells Island Public Schools Sequicentenary (150th Anniversary).

It also marks the removal and display of the contents of the time capsule placed in the school playground in 1994 at the 125th Anniversary Celebrations.

I thoroughly enjoyed researching the history of Mitchells Island Public School. So much so that I'm thinking of putting together a book including all the interesting stories of Mitchells Island residents past and present that just wouldn't fit in the schools sequicentenary book.
It's going to be a work in progress for a while, with hoards of information, newspaper articles, letters, stories and photographs to gather, study and compile. But if you have any family photographs or stories you would like included I would love to hear from you. Of course you will be credited in the book!
Forever in history your story will be told, get it in writing before we all get dementia and forget!!

The Countdown is on... Only 16 days left until MIPS turns 150!
DID YOU KNOW....??????
Mr George Scott has the credit of being the first landholder on Mitchells Island. In 1849 he purchased 50 acres of Island land for £50 at the Crown land sales in Port Macquarie. He called the property 'Rosebank' after the wild roses that grew along the banks of the creek, the creek named after him, Scotts Creek. Today, Scotts great-great-great-great grandchildren still call this land home and the sweet pink and white wild roses continue to bloom.

Calling all past and present: Staff, Students and Parents - Do you have a story to tell? A memory to capture? A photo to share? LAST CHANCE! The sesquicentenary commemorative book is in its final stages and if you have something you would like included please send through your docx or jpg file to this page or email [email protected] before the end of this week.
We are specifically still after anyone who is still attending or has attended MIPS in the past 20 years to contribute. It can be as little as one paragraph or even just a shout out to classmates. Your contribution will forever be a part of the history of Mitchells Island Public School!

The Islands naughtiest kids! If only this book was longer, but the kids of MIPS must have always been on their best behaviour! Or the rest just weren't recorded, but I'd like to believe we were all well behaved!
That is except for Ray Holden, Bruce McCaffrey, Allan Mudford, Flora Barnes, Carol Holden, Richard Currie, Billy Harrison and Aaron Duffy!!
Next Sesquicentenary Meeting 3pm Monday the 6th May (tomorrow) at the School Library! All welcome, if you can't make it but have any ideas for the celebrations just send through a message or give the school a ring! We would love to hear from more former students or teachers!
