Today, we celebrated an important milestone for the Class of 2026.

Students, families and staff gathered for our Valedictory Assembly and celebrations, recognising the formal completion of our Year 12 students' time at JSR.

For some, the weeks ahead will be focused on final ATAR examinations. Others are preparing to begin apprenticeships, traineeships, employment or further study. While the pathways ahead may look different, each student leaves JSR with their own collection of experiences, achievements and memories.

Throughout their time at the School, this cohort has contributed to academic, sporting, cultural, service and community life in countless ways. From classrooms and sporting fields to stages, camps, tours and leadership opportunities, they have helped shape the community they now leave behind.

Today's celebrations were also a reminder that no student reaches this point alone. Thank you to the parents, carers, family members and friends who joined us to mark the occasion and who have supported our students throughout their journey.

To the Class of 2026, congratulations. We are proud of what you have achieved, grateful for the contribution you have made to the life of the School and excited to see where your future pathways lead.

While your time as students has come to an end, you will always be part of the JSR community.

Expect mysterious happenings, strange clues, memorable characters and plenty of laughs as Shirley Holmes and Jennie Watson race to uncover the truth behind one of literature's most famous mysteries.

The start of a new term feels like the right time to pause and acknowledge the work our Year 12 Music students have put in to reach this point.

While many students are now focused on examinations and life beyond school, it is worth reflecting on the dedication required to pursue music at a high level throughout secondary school.

The end of Term 3 saw Year 12 students Ziqi, Jay and Matthew present their final recital, performing on the cello, pipe organ and trombone for an audience of parents, friends, teachers and fellow musicians. The evening was a celebration of years of practice, perseverance and musical growth.

What audiences see during an ATAR recital is only a small part of the story. Behind every performance are countless hours of rehearsals, individual practice sessions, instrumental lessons, ensemble commitments and the determination to keep improving. Those final performances become a snapshot of skills developed over many years.

One of the great strengths of the JSR Music Department is its ability to support students at every stage of their musical development. From the first time a student picks up an instrument, joins a choir or performs in front of an audience, they are encouraged to develop confidence, discipline and a genuine appreciation for music.

For many students, Music becomes much more than a subject. It becomes a passion, a creative outlet and a source of lifelong enjoyment. Watching students grow from beginners into confident performers is one of the most rewarding aspects of school music.

We congratulate Ziqi, Jay and Matthew on their wonderful recital performances and thank them for their contributions to music at JSR.

We also acknowledge Mrs Marsh, Ms Moss, Mr Pittorino and Mr Parkinson, whose guidance, encouragement and expertise have helped support these students throughout their musical development.

Finally, we thank the families who have spent years attending rehearsals, concerts, examinations and performances. Their support behind the scenes plays an important role in every student's success.

We wish our Year 12 Music students every success for their examinations and look forward to seeing where their talents take them in the years ahead.

JSRACS Primary is selling bandannas to help raise funds for Bandanna Day, and we'd love YOU to buy one (or two)!

Every year, cancer touches the lives of 23,000 young people in Australia. But the story doesn’t have to end there.

By purchasing a bandanna, you'll help provide essential services like counselling, peer-to-peer programs and one-on-one support.

What's more, by wearing your bandanna on Bandanna Day, Thursday 29 October 2026, you will help Bandanna-fy the nation and show that nobody must face cancer alone.

You can buy your bandanna in Week 1, Term 4: from the Early Learning Centre or in the Primary Multi Purpose Hall's fundraising box, or make a donation on the fundraising page to support their efforts!

Outstanding student work doesn't happen by accident. It starts with great teaching, high expectations and students willing to challenge themselves.

The Visual Arts have long been a strength at JSR, with students encouraged to develop technical skill, creative confidence and the courage to explore new ideas. Our Year 9 Visual Art Academic Enrichment students are a wonderful example of what can happen when talented young artists are given the opportunity to push themselves even further.

This invitation-only program allows selected students to work beyond the scope of their regular classes, tackling ambitious projects and experimenting with techniques, materials and approaches that challenge them to think differently.

This term, students have produced striking, large-scale charcoal portraits inspired by dramatic lighting. Working at an enlarged scale required careful observation of shape, tone, contrast and proportion, while also encouraging students to create powerful compositions filled with depth and atmosphere.

Students also explored more expressive approaches to painting, swapping careful brushwork for palette knives, impasto mediums and heavily layered surfaces. Rather than simply applying colour, they investigated texture, movement and the physical qualities of paint itself.

What stands out most is the individuality of the work. Each piece reflects a student's willingness to experiment, solve problems and develop their own artistic voice.

The impressive standard of artwork produced by our students is a testament not only to their talent and commitment but also to the dedication of our Visual Arts staff. Through their guidance, encouragement and expertise, students are continually challenged to develop their skills, take creative risks and discover what they are capable of achieving.

Congratulations to our Year 9 artists, and thank you to the Visual Arts Department for continuing to provide opportunities that inspire creativity and celebrate artistic excellence.

School holidays have a habit of flying by when every day brings a new adventure.

Our JSR Out of School Care students enjoyed another action-packed week, with experiences ranging from dinosaurs and detectives to discos and everything in between.

Students put their problem-solving skills to the test at Secret Agent Academy, where teamwork, observation and quick thinking helped them tackle a range of challenges. They also stepped back millions of years in time during a visit to Kingsway Dinosaur Park, exploring giant prehistoric creatures and letting their imaginations run wild.

Along the way, students enjoyed the ever-popular Wonderful Wheels activity, providing plenty of opportunities to stay active, build confidence and have fun with friends.

One of the things that makes Vacation Care so special is the variety. Rather than spending the holidays indoors, students have opportunities to explore new places, try new activities and create memories together. Every excursion, activity and adventure becomes another story to share.

Most importantly, none of this happens without the dedication of our wonderful OSC staff. Thank you for the planning, organisation and care that goes into every holiday program. Your enthusiasm helps create an environment where students feel safe, supported and excited to return each day.

A steady beat. A rolling rhythm. The sound of students bringing months of hard work together on stage.

BOOM! A Night of Percussion takes over the PAC on 20 October, showcasing the talent of JSR's percussion and drum students through solos, duets and ensemble performances.

The second half features the much-anticipated JSR Percussion Ensemble, delivering an exciting mix of rhythms and grooves that are guaranteed to keep audiences engaged from start to finish.

A small contribution can help make a real difference.

The JSR Colour Run may be over, but the impact it can have is still growing.

This year's fundraising supports the Widhya Asih Melaya and Widhya Asih Blimbingsari Orphanages in Bali, helping provide educational opportunities, meals and practical support for the young people in their care.

So far, our community has raised more than $6,800, and with your help we would love to reach our next milestone of $8,000.

Education creates choice, confidence and opportunity. Through the support of our JSR community, students at Widhya Asih are able to continue their schooling, access essential resources and work towards brighter futures.

One of the things that makes JSR special is our willingness to look beyond ourselves and support others. Fundraising initiatives such as this remind our students that positive change often begins with simple acts of generosity.
