One of the biggest misconceptions about starting school is that it’s all about knowing letters and numbers.

Of course those things matter.

But after 12 years of working with children and talking to hundreds of parents, I’ve learnt that what parents are really worried about goes much deeper than that.

They’re wondering...

Will my child be confident enough to walk into a classroom without me?

Will they be able to follow instructions in a group setting?

Will they know how to ask for help when they need it?

Will they feel capable, included and ready?

Our Award Winning School Readiness Program is about helping them feel prepared for one of the biggest transitions of their little lives.

And that’s exactly why School Readiness has become our most booked-out service.

Not because parents are trying to get their child ahead.

Not because they’re chasing academic perfection.

But because they understand that confidence, independence and strong foundations don’t happen overnight.

They are built.

Week by week.
Skill by skill.

Right now, there are only two terms left before many children begin their school journey.

And while that might sound like plenty of time, it goes by incredibly fast.

The families joining our School Readiness program now, aren’t waiting until school starts to find out what their child might struggle with.

They’re using this time intentionally to help their child build the skills, confidence and routines that make the transition to school feel smoother and less overwhelming.

If your child is starting Kindergarten soon and you’ve been thinking about school readiness, I’d love to chat.

Send me a DM with the word ‘READY,’ to book in a complimentary phone consult with me🤍

It’s not that your child can’t learn. It’s that the support isn’t built for how they learn.

If you’ve ever looked at tutoring and thought “that doesn’t feel like it would work for my child”… you’re probably right.

This is what it can look like instead.

Not worksheets. Not one-size-fits-all programs. Not children quietly getting through a lesson.

🙌This is hands-on learning that helps things actually stick.
🙌This is social-emotional support built into every session, not added on as an extra.
🙌This is communication with teachers, OTs and speechies, so your child isn’t being pulled in ten different directions.
🙌This is personalised planning based on your child’s needs, not a generic program.
🙌This is a learning environment that shifts with your child so they can engage in a way that works for them.

And yes, this is the part where parents usually say “I wish we found you sooner.”

Because once you see learning done like this, it’s hard to go back to anything else.

If you want this level of support for your child, DM ‘Ready’ to book a phone consultation with yours truly.

🚩 3 Red Flags You Shouldn’t Ignore in Kindy (Especially in Term 2) 🚩

If your child is in Kindy, things might look like they’re “keeping up” on the surface OR maybe you’ve spoken to the classroom teacher and she mentions “they’re doing fine”… but your gut tells you ‘fine’ isn’t good enough.

Here are 3 signs we often see that can indicate gaps in early literacy development:

1. They’re memorising books instead of reading them.

Children may appear to “read” familiar texts from memory, but struggle to decode new or unfamiliar words.

This can point to gaps in:
✏️letter–sound knowledge
✏️blending skills
✏️early reading foundations

2. They know their sounds… but can’t hear sounds in words.

This highlights the difference between:
🦉phonemic knowledge (knowing sounds)
🦉phonemic awareness (hearing sounds in words)

Both are essential for reading and spelling.

3. They can spell memorised words… but struggle to write independently.

This often shows reliance on memory rather than understanding how sounds build words. Independent writing requires segmenting, sequencing, and encoding sounds.

Many Kindy children become very good at copying, memorising, and relying on support, while foundational gaps quietly grow in the background.

Early support can make a significant difference in confidence and long-term learning outcomes.

At The Knowledge Nest, we focus on strengthening these core literacy foundations so children can read, spell, and write with confidence in the classroom.

DM the word ‘Kindy’ to find out more about how we can support your child.
