AFL 9s State Finals – State Runners Up

What an outstanding day for our boys at the AFL 9s State Finals. Across four games, they represented Sacred Heart brilliantly with their skill, teamwork and determination.

The boys started with an incredibly close 48–47 loss to St Joan of Arc Brighton, before bouncing back strongly with a 68–27 win over Marymede Catholic College. They continued their great form with an impressive 82–27 win over Ballarat North, securing their place in the State Final.

In the final, the boys faced a very strong Star of the Sea Ocean Grove and gave it everything, eventually going down 57–41 to finish State Runners-Up.

A special congratulations to Max, who was judged our best player across the entire day.

We are incredibly proud of all the boys. Finishing second in Victoria is a fantastic achievement and a great reward for the way they played and represented Sacred Heart throughout the day.

A huge thank you to Mr Burford for coaching the team and to the many parents who travelled and supported the boys.

These snapshots showcase some of the wonderful learning happening in Wahroonga during our Literacy Block!

Throughout the week, students learn and become familiar with a focus text. We revisit this text during our daily reviews and paired fluency practice, before the learning flows into the second hour of our morning Literacy Block.

Students have been working with focus words from the text and applying a range of FLARE writing strategies. One strategy is “sound buttons,” where students add buttons underneath the words they have written to identify each individual sound.

Students have also been using the “Tap it, Map it, Graph it” strategy. Students tap the number of sounds they hear in a word, map the word by drawing a line for each sound they have identified, and then graph the word by writing the graphemes (letters) that represent each sound. These strategies are helping students strengthen their segmenting skills and make connections between the sounds they hear and the letters they write.

We have also been working really hard on our handwriting! Students are focusing on correct letter formation, size and positioning as we begin transitioning to dotted thirds in preparation for Year One.

We are so proud of the concentration, independence and effort Wahroonga students are showing in their literacy learning!

Kyema has had the privilege of having Miss Connell with them for the past two weeks on her placement rounds. She has loved getting to know our Year Five class. During her time, students have been working on Zentangles based on Australian Native Animals 🤎

🎨 Exploring Colour in Art!

Our Year 6 students have been exploring colour, learning how to create secondary and tertiary colours and experiment with different tones. In this lesson, students put their knowledge into practice by using colour mixing and tone to recreate an artwork.

We love seeing their creativity, attention to detail and growing understanding of colour theory!

Light shows, blacksmithing, butter churning, wood sawing and all round pioneering. It's been a big day for our young campers!

Happy Grandparents' Day!

Today we celebrated one of the most special days on our school calendar as we honoured the grandparents and special friends who fill the lives of our children with unconditional love, wisdom, kindness and unwavering support.

Grandparents and Special Friends hold a unique place in the hearts of our families. They are our storytellers, our cheerleaders, our gentle guides and the keepers of treasured memories. Their patience, encouragement and love help shape the people our children become, and today was our opportunity to say a heartfelt thank you for all that they do.

Our celebration began with a beautiful Mass, where we gathered in faith and gratitude before returning to school to enjoy activities together, a shared morning tea and our Grandparents Day raffle. Watching generations laugh, create, chat and make memories together was a wonderful reminder that the greatest gifts we can give one another are our time, our presence and our love. Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make the day so memorable.
