The children play in the sandpit, scooping and digging. A child stands on the deck, bringing the beloved story of Tiddlick the Frog to life through the power of storytelling. As the child recites, the rest of the group pause their play, drawn in by the familiar sounds of the dreamtime story.
In the sand tray, the educator smooths the surface, creating a blank canvas for the children to capture the unfolding story. The children approach, eager to leave their marks, mirroring the story being told using symbols learned from family, community and the rich teachings at Mindaribba preschool.
At Mindaribba preschool we embrace the power of narrative, images, mapping and visualising as we nurture the children's learning. Through storytelling, the children learn not just tales of culture, but also the deep connection between language, art, community and country.
