Mindaribba LALC is looking for a logo for our Wampuny Program.

The Wampuny Program is a holistic approach dedicated to helping families and young people thrive. It provides a safe and nurturing space, emphasises community and kinship and offers guidance and resources to support positive growth and wellbeing.

• Anyone under 18

✏️ How to enter:
• Design your logo on A4 paper
• Write your name, age and contact details on the back
• Hand entries in at the Mindaribba LALC Office

⏰ Entries close: 11 February at 5pm

🏆 Prize:
The winning design will be used for the Wampuny Program, and the winner will receive an amazing prize.

Look at this amazing creation! One of our little learners made her own person out of playdough and added leaves for hair and asked for the eye stickers!

Through this hands-on play, children explore:

🌱 Connection to nature – using leaves and natural materials

We have been experimenting with ramps and rice, discovering how movement changes when we adjust the height and angle. As the children poured rice down the ramps, they noticed that lifting the ramp higher made the rice travel fast, while lowering it made the rice move slowly.

Through this hands-on play, the children explored:

✨ Speed and motion
✨ Early STEM thinking
✨ Problem-solving and prediction

This hands-on moments supported:
🌱 Scientific thinking – predicting, testing, observing
🖐️ Fine motor skills – careful squeezing and control
🎨 Creativity – exploring colours and patterns
🤝 Collaboration – working together, sharing ideas

We have been exploring the difference between adding water and adding vinegar to bicarb soda with hidden colours. Using droppers, they tested their ideas, compared reactions, and watched closely to see what changed — and what didn’t.

A simple, engaging experience that sparked big conversations, careful hands, and lots of excitement as the colours bubbled to life.

At preschool today our little hands were busy creating with modelling clay!
Playing with clay isn’t just fun – it’s also a fantastic way to strengthen fine motor skills. As children roll, pinch, squeeze, and shape the clay, they’re building the muscles in their hands and fingers that support writing, drawing, and self-help skills like doing up buttons and zippers.
Clay play also sparks creativity, encourages problem-solving, and helps children focus and persist with their ideas. Ladybugs, snails, trees, babies and flowers can be seen. Each creation tells a story of imagination and learning.

"Look, I done my colours!"

One of our little learners approached an educator, beaming with pride. What followed was a beautiful yarn about the meaning behind the colours.

The red of the earth and the ochre used in ceremonies, representing our deep connection with the land.

The yellow of the sun, the giver of life and the protector

The black of our people, symbolising strength, history and identity.

With a spark of recognition, another child ran to the desk, returning with a small Aboriginal flag.

It is moments like this that reinforce the importance of why we do what we do at Mindaribba Preschool. We are nurturing strong, resilient and proud Aboriginal Wannay who are connected to their past, to their land and to their people as they walk confidently towards their future.

The children play in the sandpit, scooping and digging. A child stands on the deck, bringing the beloved story of Tiddlick the Frog to life through the power of storytelling. As the child recites, the rest of the group pause their play, drawn in by the familiar sounds of the dreamtime story.

In the sand tray, the educator smooths the surface, creating a blank canvas for the children to capture the unfolding story. The children approach, eager to leave their marks, mirroring the story being told using symbols learned from family, community and the rich teachings at Mindaribba preschool.

At Mindaribba preschool we embrace the power of narrative, images, mapping and visualising as we nurture the children's learning. Through storytelling, the children learn not just tales of culture, but also the deep connection between language, art, community and country.
