Starting research can feel overwhelming.
Methodological frameworks, research design, literature navigation itโs a lot to manage, especially for those planning to start a PhD or in the first stages of their program.
Through working with early-stage researchers, I noticed a recurring challenge:
many capable students get stuck before they even begin, unsure of how to lay a solid foundation for rigorous, structured research.
From that identified need, the Research Foundation Cohort was born.
This cohort is designed for researchers who are:
-Planning to start a PhD or research degree
-In the early stages of their program and feeling unsure about research design
-Struggling to move from ideas to structured plans
-Looking to build a strong foundation for methodologically sound research
Over a 3-week structured program, participants will:
-Clarify and refine research questions
-Understand core research methodologies
-Develop early-stage literature and evidence synthesis strategies
-Learn structured approaches to planning research projects
-Build confidence in approaching supervisors, proposals, and early data collection
This is a guided, implementation-focused environment- not passive content.
If you are new to research or supervising someone at this stage, this cohort is designed to give clarity, structure, and confidence from the very beginning.

Cohort begins: 6 April 2026

A rigorous literature review - whether systematic, scoping, or integrative- is not a summary exercise.
It is a methodological argument.
The distinction between an average review and a defensible one lies in structure, transparency, and intellectual rigour.
On 23 March, I will be commencing a 2-week intensive Systematic & Evidence Synthesis Review Cohort, designed for postgraduate students and early career researchers undertaking systematic, scoping, or integrative reviews who are committed to producing methodologically sound work.
This cohort is for researchers who want to:
โข Strengthen alignment between their research question and review design
โข Develop a defensible, reproducible search strategy
โข Apply structured screening processes with PRISMA clarity
โข Design explicit inclusion and exclusion criteria
โข Implement systematic data extraction and critical appraisal
โข Move from extraction to coherent synthesis
โข Structure their review chapter with examiner and publication standards in mind
Over two focused weeks, participants will work through the architecture of a rigorous evidence synthesis - from conceptual framing to structured reporting.
This is not a content-heavy course.
It is a precision-based, implementation environment designed to elevate the methodological standard of your review.
For researchers currently undertaking an evidence synthesis - or supervisors supporting candidates through one - further details are available upon request.
Commencing 23 March.

At a Thesis Whisperer workshop, I asked:

I explained my routine:

I treated my PhD like a job.
Yet, I felt ๐จ๐ถ๐ช๐ญ๐ต๐บ.
