At Urban Discovery our goal is to create environments for children that are rich in opportunities for meaningful connection with nature and which support children to participate in unstructured, unhurried and inspired play.
We also recognise the need for educators to deepen their own relationship to the natural world and reflect on their role within such a learning environment.
Our Re-Discover Professional Development and Mentoring programs do just that; support education teams to embrace the natural learning environment and maximise opportunities for play based learning to occur.
Facilitated by the Urban Discovery Collective and customised to meet the goals of each team, Re-Discover is like no other PD you’ve experienced.

“Thank you for you and your team for an amazing day. The team has come back ready to take on the year – they messaged me that same week expressing their gratitude towards our care for their learning and development and were very honored to be part of a special day, thank you for making this day memorable for the team”

The 3 B’s
We all know the 3 R’s; Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle.
If you’re in education you may also know 3 R’s complex cousin; Reading, Writing, and Arithmetic. (Don’t get me started).
But… we doubt you’ve heard of the 3 B’s.
A new idea brought to you exclusively by Urban Discovery and our student collaborators.
The 3 B’s: Beans, Broccoli, Billy Buttons.
Sure to bring learning, nutrition and delight to a school near you.
Huge shout out to Simone and the wonderful team of staff and students at for nurturing the Urban Farm through all of its cycles and feeding tummies and hearts in the process.
What do you think? Should the 3 B’s be in every school?

Why Loose Parts?
Practitioners and researchers widely endorse loose parts for fostering creativity, divergent thinking, and problem-solving skills. Teachers in loose parts interventions report unanimous increases in creative play. A 2024 quasi-experimental study of 147 preschoolers found outdoor loose parts play significantly enhanced creative thinking — including exploration, participation, and persistence — compared with control conditions.

People are amazing!!!
Kind hearted, generous, community minded and passionate.
And clever, strong, gentle, determined.
We have so many volunteers to thank for their help in creating The Wildplace Children’s Garden at the show. And so many photos to sift through 😂
For now, here is a snippet. Thank you Legends. One and all.
We did it and it was EPIC!
Who’s in for next year? 👍
Nature is twisty. It’s curly, and adaptive.
Nature develops in response to the environment it grows in. Much like children.
We love to rescue discarded logs. The twistier, the better.
These curious treasures evoke imagination, creativity and learning. Sometimes we will carve our own little surprises into otherwise straight logs. Inviting more ways for children to engage in play and learning.
Experimentation. Collaboration. Environmental science. Maths. Physics. Proprioceptive engagement. Physical, social and cognitive development.
We could go on and on.
The most important part? Exponential fun!
Enjoy little peeps!
Happy Weekend Everyone.
We hope you find lots of moments to play and to ponder.

Twenty Days Straight
There are so many stories, connections, revelations, learnings, and more to be shared.
For now these words sum it all up perfectly;
“If cloud 9 is the pinnacle, then I’m on cloud 10” - Rorie Clarke Urban Discovery Wildplace Designer
Enjoy the long weekend folks, we will each be in our own Wildplaces, filling our cups with natures gifts, ready to get stuck back in next week. We have so much work to do in returning nature to children and children to nature.

A pause moment.
Don’t we all need those? The Wildplace, as with all of our designs, incorporates elements, textures and quiet nooks. All of these deliberately invite children and adults to pause a moment, and maybe even to linger and to rest. To ponder, to imagine, to observe.
We hope that each of you makes a moment today to pause and to let your shoulders drop, your breath deepen and your sweet hearts soften.
Thanks to , and all of our Wildplace sponsors for helping us bring the Wildplace to the this year.
