These can also double as a puzzle activity. Cut along the lines and have your child match all the different representations of the same number back together. Start with a couple of numbers from 1-5 first until your child is confident with all representations of 1, 2, 3, 4 & 5. Then move onto larger numbers.

What is number sense? Making sense of numbers goes beyond counting. It’s important for children to make connections between the word, quantity, and numeral. There are many ways to represent the same number. All numbers can be broken into parts and have strong relationships with other numbers. We want our kids to easily discuss numbers that are 1 more/less or 10 more/10 less than a given number. When a child can do this it means they understand the number and allows them to work flexibly and confidently with numbers.
