A fabulously generative and generous conversation and screening at Revision Video Lab (RMIT) with Arezou Zalipour (Auckland University of Technology).

In her talk ‘Thinking ethnically, ethically in collaborative screen practice’ Arezou reflects on the creative and ethical foundations of her film ‘Shama’. ‘Shama’ draws on the work of Aotearoa/NZ based Women’s NGO Shama to portray the ‘everyday feminisms’ that are central to ethnic women’s advocacy. Combining performance, archives, fictional strategies and observational camerawork, the film is both, a great watch and always alert to questions of ethics and power in filmmaking at every stage of its research, production and representation life cycle.
