Hey Rainbow Fam 🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️
💜💜💜Join us on August 25th as we celebrate 💜💜💜
This month’s Q***r Hangout is on Friday, 25 August, and it’s also Wear it Purple Day! Double the celebration. We invite the Monash community to wear their most striking (or subtle) purple outfits as a show of support!
It’s important to understand that this day we celebrate originated as a response to difficult issues around the societal acceptance of alternative sexual and gender identities that young LGBTIQA+ individuals continue to face to this day. While it is as simple as wearing something purple, your participation in this day and your acknowledgement of what it represents can make a positive difference for those around you. You can visit the Wear it Purple website to learn more.
Show up in purple to the MGA Graduate Lounge at Clayton and Caulfield between 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm and get your free mini cupcake to sweeten the day!
Later on, you can join fellow LGBTIQA+ members and allies from the Monash community for a relaxed chat on the Clayton Campus from 2:00 pm – 3:00 pm. Our friendly and supportive MGA Q***r Officer, Phil Kairns will be hosting the event!
Your first coffee, tea, wine, beer or non-alcoholic drink is on the MGA!
Collect your mini-cupcake at the MGA Graduate Lounge
Date: Friday, 25 August
Time: 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm
Location:
Caulfield: MGA Graduate Lounge (Level 2, Building C), Caulfield campus
Clayton: MGA Graduate Lounge (Level 1, Campus Centre), Clayton campus
No registration necessary, just show up wearing purple! First in, best dressed!

💛🤍💜🖤 Hey Rainbow Fam it’s which is an annual event that takes place during July, in the week that surrounds Non-Binary People’s Day. This week is used to raise awareness and celebrate the diversity of gender identities that exist outside of the traditional gender binary. This week is also a time for the Non-Binary community to come together and share their experiences and stories, as well as to create a space for education and advocacy.
The Non-Binary community is a diverse one, and includes people who identify as genderq***r, genderfluid, agender, bigender, and gender non-conforming. This week is a chance for the Non-Binary community to celebrate their unique experiences and identities, and to create visibility and understanding 💛🤍💜🖤 ***r ***an ***r

National Week celebrations are held across Australia in the first week of July each year (Sunday to Sunday), to celebrate and recognise the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. NAIDOC Week is an opportunity for all Australians to learn about First Nations cultures and histories and participate in celebrations of the oldest, continuous living cultures on earth.
The 2023 National NAIDOC Week theme is For Our Elders.
This year’s poster was created by Bobbi Lockyer, a proud Ngarluma, Kariyarra, Nyulnyul and Yawuru artist, born and based on Kariyarra Country in Port Hedland, is the winner of the prestigious National NAIDOC Week Poster Competition for 2023 with her entry, For Our Elders.
“Where there is knowledge there are our Elders. Our Elders paved the pathways for us, taught us our knowledge, our history, they passed down their art, stories and wisdom. Our Elders are the foundation of our communities and role models for our children. With this poster I wanted to showcase how important our Elders are in passing down traditions and culture to our children and future.” said Bobbi.

Today,May 24, is Pansexual and Panromantic Visibility Day, a day to celebrate and recognise those who identify as pansexual.
Pansexuality is different from bisexuality but the two aren't mutually exclusive. Being bisexual means being attracted to more than one gender, while being pansexual means being attracted to people regardless of gender. Pansexuality is included under the bisexual umbrella, which covers anyone who experiences sexual or romantic attraction to more than one gender.
Like its LGBTQ+ counterparts, Pan visibility day is an opportunity to bring to light the stories and experiences of Pansexual people in society and look at how we can work to improve inclusivity for pansexual people.
