The next time you're at the library, take a moment to view our display in memory of Rev Prof Jione Havea.

Jione was an active associate teacher at Pilgrim Theological College where he taught units in Hebrew Bible and Biblical Interpretation, advised and supported Indigenous Studies, and supervised higher degree by research students. His life and work has a profound impact on the College, broader University and church, and across postcolonial scholarship. We are so grateful to Jione for all the wonderful ways in which he has shaped, challenged, and encouraged us.

A prolific writer, this selection represents just some of Jione’s works currently available at the Dalton McCaughey Library. They explore postcolonial interpretation, climate change, doing theology under oppression, power and crisis, on bodies, and resistance. They show Jione’s commitment to doing theology justly and doing justice theologically: amplifying voices on the margins and championing the interests, perspectives and unique insights of Pasifika cultures on the biblical text.

This month, we’ll be discussing Quarterly Essay and the question it raises: Has Australia forgotten that Southeast Asia keeps us safe and prosperous? Together, we’ll reflect on some of the tensions shaping Australia’s place in the region, including AUKUS and recent political shifts, in the company of a thoughtful and curious community. All are welcome to join the conversation. https://dml.vic.edu.au/event/24-apr-quarterly-conversation/

A small shipment of books can make a great difference. Two boxes of academic books have recently arrived at Seghe Theological Seminary Library (Solomon Islands) where they’ve been warmly received by library staff and students. As they shared with us, “The books are significant. They add to the limited collections our library has.” Pictured are Librarians Christella Subo and Florence Piruku (top-left and top-right), with Rev. Lima (top-centre).

This donation was a joint effort, with contributions from Trinity College and Dalton McCaughey Library. We’re immensely grateful to a local Uniting Church congregation for generously supporting the shipping costs through their Missions fund. It was coordinated by Cindy Derrenbacker (Library Manager, Dalton McCaughey Library; bottom-left) and Kerrie Handasyde (Academic Dean, Pilgrim Theological College; bottom-right), who are pictured here with books from our collection.

Paula Gooder sat down with writing retreat participants recently to talk about the joys, struggles, and quiet persistence of writing. Drawing on her work as an academic theologian, her love of words, and her experience as a published author, she offered a handful of practical and deeply encouraging insights. Here are five of our favourites: https://dml.vic.edu.au/story/five-writing-tips-gooder/

Thanks to everyone who gathered around the table to piece together our latest community puzzle—especially those who braved the clear blue sky section of this 1000-piece photo (Cathedral of the Intercession of Most Holy Theotokos on the Moat, Moscow). A new puzzle has become available on the first floor today: The Last Supper by Leonardo da Vinci—perfect for Easter reflection or a gentle break from the mid-semester rush.
