When I was younger

I,
like many others

Used to love people watching

But the lens with which I people watched
was a juvenile one

Hell bent on fitting in
I let my insecurities lead me

And so I watched

Laughing
Sneering
Joking
Jeering

I Remember at around 16
I stopped

I remember standing up
I remember saying
no more
that’s enough
I remember very clearly I no longer joined in

Hindsight is one of the greatest gifts we have as humans

Now I still love to watch people
meandering by
But this time I see through a different lens

One of admiration
And curiosity
Wonderment and
A deep reverence for life

Who are these people?
What did they eat today?
Where are they going?
Why are they smiling?
Why do they look so flustered?
What coffee do they order?
What do they love to do?

I marvel at the diversity of us
Bemused at the idiosyncrasies
Anticipating the next person as they move from my peripheral

Into full focus

Humans are glorious creatures

Endless possibility
And in that one singular moment I am reminded just how glorious we can be

STORYTIME

Years ago after a loooooong day out at a music festival
You know those
day ----night ----- day ones 🥂🎶

We had somehow bumbled our way back to a friends house
We sat around
talking laughing drinking
stretching out the party

A friend of mine became hungry
and decided an apple was a great idea 🍏

Amidst the laughter she began choking on a piece of apple

As you can imagine
we are in no state to offer assistance
and certaibnly not to drive

After a rather hilarious hugging of the toilet bowl

She finally dislodged this piece of apple (I still have no idea how)

It almost exploded out of her mouth

We both stared at the bottom of the toilet bowl
where this teeny tiny piece of apple landed in the water

She looked at me with watery eyes
tears streaming down her face
cheeks flushed
and said with a strangled voice

“It was small yet significant”

Not only is this one of the funniest memories I have with this friend

But it stayed with me

And has become an anchor point

As I have come to understand Quantum leaps

I know that Its less about the leap
And more about the impact it has

Ok I have a confession

I’m seeing a lot of this stuff across all socials lately and I can’t keep it in any more
