Inspired by Terry Lovejoy's image Saturday night, here's the still image version of Comet Tsuchinshan-ATLAS (C/2023 A3) setting in the murk over Lake Learmonth, outside Ballarat. Sunday 20th October ~9:00-9:30pm AEDT. Sony A7III, Sigma 20mm lens. 20 sec exposures at f1.4
It's not bright to the eye especially on a hazy night like tonight, but very photogenic!

Fame and fortune #3 of 3: This image was created with Colin Legg Photography, whose passion for eclipses and remote camraderie gave me new motivation when I was in a deep dark image processing hole this time last year. Colin further developed computational approaches to eclipse image processing, building on the SunPy codebase. He would not even put a figure on the hours he put into this. The caption on the wall at Royal Museums Greenwich says: "The title 'Countless' for this image is drawn from the mind-boggling detail shown in the Sun's corona during the April 2023 eclipse. But it is also a reference to the number of hours spent planning this expedition and rehearsing the photography, and particularly the work we have done to the fine details of the inner corona in the image, since the event. [Colin said] It is a privilege to have been able to access such exquisite eclipse image data". https://www.rmg.co.uk/whats-on/astronomy-photographer-year/galleries/our-sun-2024
