If you’re looking to make some easy money, you need to be up selling.

Upselling doesn’t need to feel forced and you certainly shouldn’t feel guilty for wanting to solve more of your client’s problems.

In fact upselling is a win-win. It’s typically much easier for companies to do more business with companies they’ve already engaged with rather than going to market. There’s also far less stress for the client because they trust you and your quality of work.

Key strategies to effective up selling

1. Knowing your client’s 5-10 year plan and goals. You’ll be far better positioned to understand some of the problems they may face down the road.

2. Knowing your client’s future plans puts you in a great spot to grow your own service offering alongside your client.

3. Timing is everything. Be aware of not just special occasions but also important phases of your client’s financial calendars. Left over Funds in a budget at the end of the financial year can be a bad thing for some clients, especially in organisations or franchises.

Typically if funds are left over, they’re cut out of the budget for next year. Some department managers make a solid conscious effort to maximise their budget spend so it remains available to them in the next financial year.

It never hurts to ask the question.

3. Tell a story with your props, try not to add equipment or food elements into the shot that have nothing to do with the hero dish or overall story you’re trying to tell.

4. Finally, Please for the love of all things good and holy, make sure you have enough light!
