Children’s Week is a national celebration of children’s rights, talents and citizenship held on the fourth Wednesday of October in Australia to coincide with Universal Children’s Day. Each year the theme of Children’s Week highlights a particular Children’s Right.

The Children’s Week National Theme for 2023 is based on UNCRC Article 31: Children have the right to relax, play and to join in a wide range of leisure activities.

You can find more information about Children's Week here: https://www.napcan.org.au/childrensweek/

Like good friends, some things are just better together. The support of a good mate can help someone feel connected and supported as they navigate life's ups and downs.

This can include exam and study pressure, financial stress, mental ill-health and navigating relationships. We all want to be there for our friends when they're struggling, but sometimes it can be tricky to know what to say and do.

If you feel like something’s not quite the same with a friend – there’s something going on in their life or you notice a change in what they’re doing or saying - trust that gut instinct and take the time to ask them, 'are you OK?'

When someone is struggling it can be hard to speak up and ask for help. By acting as ‘eyes and ears’ and reaching out to anyone who's going through a tough time we can show them they’re supported and encourage them to access help sooner.

That's why we've put together these resources, to help you and know how to have those important conversations.

R U OK? Day 2023 is Thursday 14 September (tomorrow) and is our national day of action when we remind Australians that every day is the day to ask, ‘are you OK?’ and start a meaningful conversation whenever they spot the signs that someone they care about might be struggling with life.

Educators - Programming idea ( even parents can incorporate at home too)

Embedding games and activities at your centre will help you address National Quality Standard, Quality Area 2.

Through play-based food activities, children have the opportunity to explore and learn about foods in an engaging way, separate from mealtimes.

Food related games and activities are also a great way to expose children to new and non-preferred foods in a fun and encouraging way, especially for fussy eaters or children who are anxious about trying new foods.

The ideas in the attached website can be used to engage children in healthy eating experiences, teach them to recognise different foods and encourage them to experiment with new foods, tastes, flavours and textures.
