The Enigma Of The United States: Quandaries and explanations 14/09/2022

I've recently helped Dr. Peter Bowden (ex Sydney Uni) self-publish 2 of his books on Amazon. The Enigma of The United States is a fascinating read about the precarious situation the U.S. finds itself in.
I did the cover layout and design, some editing and typesetting for the book.

The Enigma Of The United States: Quandaries and explanations This book examines the multiplicity of issues facing the United States: the high rate of killings through legal executions, mass shootings and individual murders In a country that believes more in god and prays more that any other country in the world. It also examines the foray of the United Sta...

Some helpful information for anyone who uses a digital device.

For those unfamiliar, Brute-forcing involves "an attacker submitting many passwords or passphrases with the hope of eventually guessing correctly. The attacker systematically checks all possible passwords and passphrases until the correct one is found."

A lot of people I work with use fairly simple passwords and don't want the fuss of using their browser's inbuilt password management system. To those folk I suggest at least having very strong, unique, email and banking passwords with 2 factor authentication.
There are many good techniques for coming up with secure passwords that are easy to remember.

PHISHING

A friend recently posted about a suspicious-looking email she received that initially appeared legitimate but after closer scrutiny revealed itself to be a phishing email.

I thought this a good opportunity to talk about some of the telltale signs of a phishing message (email, SMS, social media)

First off - What’s a Phishing email? It’s a message that is designed to make the recipient perform a specific task. The attacker can use a variety of tricks to make an email or SMS look genuine and include a request to click on a link, open an attachment or provide private information like login details.

Things to look out for in a phishing email:

Inconsistencies in Email Addresses, Links & Domain Names
Emails Demanding Urgent Action
Emails with Bad Grammar and Spelling Mistakes
Emails with an Unfamiliar Greeting or Salutation
Suspicious Attachments
Emails Requesting Login Credentials, Payment Information or Sensitive Data
Too Good to Be True Emails

Any of the above signs are red lights, meaning, don’t click on any links! However, rather than simply deleting the email I would first suggest providing feedback to your email host by ‘Reporting spam’ and notifying your IT department if at work. By doing so you’ll be helping others.

The Australian Government has a good article on how to deal with these threats, I’d highly recommend have a read here: https://www.cyber.gov.au/acsc/view-all-content/threats/phishing
