Think your child is doing “fine” at school?
I see this all the time as a teacher.
Parents read their child’s school report and think…
“They seem to be doing fine?”
But often, that’s not actually what the report is saying.
School reports can be confusing — and the language isn’t always clear if you don’t work in schools.
If you’ve ever felt unsure reading your child’s report, you’re definitely not alone.
I’ve put together a simple guide to help parents understand what it actually means — and what to do next.

Choosing a school isn’t just about results; it’s about the right fit.
These are some of the key questions I encourage families to ask when exploring schools.
Because the best school isn’t the “top” school…
it’s the one where your child will thrive.
If you’re feeling unsure navigating school options, I’m here to help 🤍

Sometimes it’s not that a child can’t succeed; it’s that the environment isn’t the right fit.
In schools, I see this more often than parents realise.
Schools vary widely in their culture, support structures and learning approach.
The right environment can make a significant difference to a child’s learning, confidence and wellbeing.
Every child is different, and finding the right fit matters.

“My child is capable… but school feels hard.”
I hear this all the time from parents.
Often, it’s not about ability — it’s about how a child learns, their environment, and the support around them.
If your child is struggling, disengaged, or lacking confidence, you’re not alone.
I work with families to understand what’s really going on and create a clear plan forward.
If this resonates, feel free to reach out 🤍

NAPLAN week can feel stressful for many families.
Parents often worry about how their child will perform, what the results mean, and whether it will impact their child’s future.
The reality is that NAPLAN is just one snapshot in time.
It measures a small part of learning in areas like reading, writing and numeracy. It does not measure creativity, resilience, curiosity, kindness, confidence or many of the other qualities that matter deeply for a child’s future.
For many children, the pressure around testing can feel overwhelming. What they need most from the adults around them is calm, reassurance and perspective.
Some helpful reminders for families this week:
• Encourage your child to simply try their best
• Keep routines normal and low pressure
• Focus on effort rather than results
• Remind them that one test does not define them
NAPLAN results can sometimes provide useful information about learning progress, but they are only one piece of a much bigger picture.
A child’s wellbeing, confidence and love of learning will always matter more than a single test score.
SchoolWize supports families to understand the education system, navigate school decisions and make informed choices with confidence.
