What an absolute blast to be with the members and guests of Our HQ and share with them ‘How to build better relationships by understanding human behaviour’.

There was ots of laughs 🤣, fun 🤩, and great learnings come from it.

If you too would like a fun and engaging lunch and learn, drop me a line and let’s make it happen 🤙🏻.

👉It's HARD when you don't see the FUN in it.

🏋🏼Exercising the other morning we were training to a target 🎯.
Moving quickly. Lifting weights. I was loving it.

👉I asked my training partner, “having fun?", to which they replied "it's hard".
And they were right! It's was Hard, because that's what they saw it to be.

🫴Every situation is what you make of it.
You can see the problem, the struggle, the hard.
Or you can see the opportunity, challenge, the enjoyment.

⭐️You choose your own experience.

👉 All people want is to be validated. That doesn't mean them being right, it just means that someone else can see their point of view.

🫴 How to … Start Gaining Clarity in your Life?

💫Gaining Clarity starts by understanding where you are NOW and The Wheel of Life is a great tool for that as it helps you gain awareness about which areas of your life you need to pay more attention to and do some work.

👉 The Wheel can be divided into many different areas, the one here is only an example. We can add as many areas as we think necessary, the Wheel of Life I work with my clients has 14+ sections.

✍️  The idea is for you to make a self-assessment and state the level of satisfaction in each area (relationships, finances, health, love, career, etc). From 1 to 10 how satisfied are you based on where things are at? The wheel gives you a clear visual picture of where your life is thriving and what areas need some investment.

🫴 In life not "EVERYTHING" is bad, some areas are normally better than others. This exercise is the first step towards observing our life and thoughts with a more objective view. I particularly love the wheel because we usually talk about gaining work/life balance, right?  Career and work are simply a part of life, not an opposing force. So, how can you balance a part of something with the whole?

When seeing life as a wheel… I ask: How rough is the ride right now?

How often do you step back and simply observe your view on things?

📌 Today marks two very special occasions, my son's birthday 🎂 and the anniversary of me becoming a parent 👨‍👦‍👦.

👉 As much as you try to explain what being a parent means and feels like, you can't fully comprehend it until you experience it. This not something you are simply taught to one day apply; you have to experience it and learn as you go. It's fully experiential.

🫴 The same applies to changing your mindset and personal transformation. In order to become we must "be" and "do". No matter how much advice you get or self-help books you read, transformation and change are for you to experience.

🔈Story time…

Back in 2019, while sitting comfortably on my couch watching TV, my mate sent a message to our WhatsApp group chat: “hey, I’ve got a spare entry to the Melbourne half-marathon 🏃, do you know anyone who's interested?".

That message wasn't “for me”, so I sat waiting for others to take it.

Shortly after, my mate pointed a message directly to me in the group and asked: "how about you give it a go Owen”.

Silence.

All I heard was "yes".  What if you just said "yes"? — I thought.

So I did.

Minutes after, I could only think “What had I just done!?”
I’d never run more than 5km before, and the race was only 3 days away!

At that stage the best thing I could was to

⭐️ Stop fighting my expectations and leave them all aside;
👉 Expecting to "set a good time"
👉 Expecting to "run the whole race"
👉 Expecting to "finish"

⭐️ Ask for advice;
(I had a few mates that had completed long distance events and they were more than willing to help)

⭐️ Focus on what I could control;
👉 Showing up
👉 Starting the race
👉 Being present and listening to my body

🏆 The result? Well… exactly that photo 👆 (yes the one with my mate) was taken right after finishing my 1st Half Marathon in 2019. I said yes and I made it.

✔️Yes it was a loooooong time running
✔️Yes it was hard
✔️Yes I stopped a couple of times
✔️Yes I got cramps and blisters
✔️Yes lots of people finished way before I did
✔️Yes I couldn’t walk for a week after it

“When we stop fighting ourselves and become present, we allow ourselves to do that thing we've never done.”

🫴 Until you stop judging, you will always feel judged by others.

For as long as I can remember I felt compared and judged.

I had to be better than others.
I had to behave and be good, or else I was naughty and bad.
I was the teachers' pet.
I was too loud.
I was too blunt.
I was too pedantic.
I was so sensitive.
I was chubby.
I was weak.
I didn't fit in.
I wasn't good enough for the team.
I wasn't good enough at my job.
I wasn't fit enough.
I didn't look good enough.
I couldn't do it.
I needed to be smarter - as there was “always” someone smarter that could prove me wrong.
I didn't deserve the role that I had.
I didn't deserve the results that I had achieved.
I didn't deserve what I was being paid.
I had to work harder.
I had to do more.
I had to spread myself further.
I had to look better for people to like me.
I had to be stronger for people to appreciate me.
I couldn't fail, or else I would be a failure.
If my wife, my boss, my staff, my parents, or my family weren't happy, it was because of my doing (or not doing).

I felt scrutinised! 😡

I became critical of others. Maybe not to their face, but I would think or talk about it with others.

Then I realised, that yes, I had maybe heard some of those things in my past — and people can be mean at times, especially as kids... BUT, I was the one that carry them along with with me.

I was the one judging me 🤯!
I was my harshest critic (and at times, still am).

🫴 I began to accept what made me. And if I didn't like something, I change it or simply adjust it. As a result, I am more accepting of others and, I now feel less judged and more accepted.

👉 Next time you find your self judging someone, honestly ask yourself, "what is it that I see about them that I'm not happy within me?"

🗣️ Let me tell you a story…

An old colleague called me because they couldn't decide which job offer to take. They felt stuck and indecisive. Overwhelmed and in fear of making the "wrong decision", questioning what to prioritise: financial gain, career progression, their personal relationship? Everything felt important, nothing could be left out. Any choice was "a loss".

👥 Together we had a conversation getting clear on what really mattered to them. We explored options, looked at their environment and circumstances, and they finally found their clarity. From there they made their decision and chose what they felt was the "right offer" for them at that point in time.

🙏 A few months after I received a call to say that "the decision was the best one they've made. It's led to a new role, and they're on track for their dream role. They're being paid more and, most importantly, they're happy".

🫴 Moments where you feel stuck and overwhelmed are moments of great opportunity for clarity. It's not easy to deal with all apparent competing priorities, however it's only when you see and grasp them all that you can begin to dissect them and find out what you truly want.

👉 With awareness, the right tools and guidance clarity is something you no longer need to “search for” but instead begin to tap into. Because when you have mind clarity, you choose from a place of truth and create the outcomes you profoundly desire.
