What could your kids do with one extra hour?
What could your kids do with one extra hour?
A bike ride? Build a cubby house? Play a really long game of Uno?
Reducing time on screens makes for happier kids, and more memories made together.
What the guidelines say about screen time:
⭕Under 2: no recreational screen time
⭕2–5 years: up to 1 hour a day
⭕5–17 years: up to 2 hours a day (outside schoolwork)
(from NSW Health & Australian 24-Hour Movement Guidelines)
Why not try some easy screen swaps this week:
✅ Phones off at mealtimes
✅ Swap a show for a walk, game, or backyard adventure
✅ Wind down with a book instead of a device

Parent tip: Turn any open space into a movement zone!
Parent tip: Turn any open space into a movement zone!
You don’t need fancy equipment, just a small open area and a bit of creativity to get kids moving, building skills, and having fun.
Try mixing in these simple activities:
Speed bursts – short, fast sprints (eg. run to a tree and back as fast as possible)
Quick challenges – mini tasks like “5 jumps and 3 spins” to keep it exciting
Silly starts – begin moving in fun ways (eg. crab walk, hopping, spinning start)
Mystery moves – call out random actions (eg. “Skip backwards!” or “Touch the ground then jump”)
Footwork patterns – moving your feet in different ways (eg. side steps, zig-zag runs, ladder-style stepping) to build coordination
Direction/pace changes – switch between walking, jogging, sprinting or quickly change direction
Why it matters:
These activities build coordination, balance, fitness, and confidence, all through play.

✅ Tip: Keep it short, fun, and child-led, let kids make up their own challenges!
