Every child in the same classroom is at a different point on the spectrum.

A Year 9 student once could not solve a basic algebra problem. She was bright, engaged, trying hard. But something was not clicking. When we went backwards, she could not do a multiplication question. Not because she was not capable. Because somewhere around Year 5, a foundational concept had never been secured.

I pay attention to the small details in what parents tell me. Not the praise - the proof. When a family drives 25 to 30 minutes through traffic to get to a Saturday class, and the kids still love going, that tells me something no star rating ever could. Children do not want to sit in a car for half an hour to go somewhere that feels like a chore. If they are asking to go back, it is because something in that room made them feel good about learning. "Will my child actually be noticed in a group?" - it's one of the most common questions I hear from parents.

The honest answer is: it depends entirely on the class size. Small enough that a tutor knows when something isn't landing, even if the student doesn't say a word - that's the real test. Selective entry at Year 11 is a different kind of preparation to primary school entry. The students are older, the competition is serious, and the window to prepare is shorter. What I've seen is that families who approach it methodically - not in a panic, but with a clear plan from the start - tend to get the outcomes they're hoping for.
