To be affected by someone's opinion of us is like saying to ourselves, "I believe your opinion of me more then I believe my own opinion of me". This can occur more easily when we have a low opinion of ourselves. Raise your opinion of yourself and you will BELIEVE less and less the opinion of others over your own. Facebook is a great medium for personal growth. If YOU have a reaction to someone's opinion/belief which is causing YOU pain and suffering, look at the true reason why YOU are having a reaction. It's all to do with what YOU are believing not them. Change YOUR beliefs and YOU will change the way YOU feel.

If you do something to help another person out and they don't give you any thanks or appreciation for it, remember, it was your choice in the first place to help this person. They don't owe you any gratitude, appreciation or help in return. You already received what you needed from the exchange, some information for you to learn from.
If you are upset from the exchange, then the information is extremely valuable, as it is showing you that you still have some beliefs on how you think people SHOULD act, or that you need someone else's attention or praise to make you feel good, or your life is not going the way it is supposed to, and the list goes on.
Check in with your beliefs by asking yourself: What do I think I NEED from this person/event to make me feel good? Once you have pinpointed what you THOUGHT you needed to feel good, follow up with this: How can I make myself feel good without the input from someone else?
The best thing you can do for yourself in this situation is have appreciation for the effort you made to help another human being and have gratitude for them for helping you to discover what you still need to learn about YOU.

If our life is defined by the interpretations our brain comes up with, and those interpretations send the signals to our brain to make us happy or sad, then instead of trying to control and manipulate the entire universe to gain happiness, how about addressing the validity of our interpretations.
The question is "How do we address the validity of our interpretations?".
Simple. Distinguish the difference between what is actually happening and what you perceive to be happening.
EG: Actual Event: Today it is raining
Interpretation of this Event from 4 perspectives:
The Farmer: Oh, lovely it is raining now my crops will get watered. I feel happy. :)
The Bride to be: Damn it, my whole day is ruined, what a way to start our life together. I feel mad. :(
The Tiler: I can't go to work today and I have some bills to pay. I feel fear. :0
The Wiseman: Today it is raining. I feel peace.
Which interpretation is 'THE TRUTH'. Of course the last one. All of the others are coloured by our subjective wants and needs.
Address your interpretations, this is the key to having peace of mind. J.R
Remember you are not a failure for having to ask for help, as we all need help sometimes, this is the nature of being human beings. Because we don’t have all the answers, and life keeps throwing a lot of unexpected stuff at us, it is natural for us to have temporary emotional upheavals from time to time. Each person on the planet expresses and experiences these upheavals differently, so it is important be aware your mind may be comparing your current experience to what you see in others, which will not be entirely 100% accurate. Other people do stress differently and show it in very different ways, most of which we rarely get to see, as the majority of us will do it in the perceived safety of our own homes, or, have a subconscious conditioned response for public expression to try and maintain the SUPER HUMAN look.
Therefore it is important to accept your own unique emotional experiences for what they really are, MOMENTS OF GROWTH. These upheavals during times of stress are our brains way of re-organising it’s neural connections to deal with life more effectively the next time a similar situation arises. Embrace the feelings, see the benefits in the bigger picture of evolution and personal development, and above all, always remind yourself, YOU ARE NOT LESS of a person for feeling upset, stressed, anxious, angry or sad. Your Internal Map of Reality is the blueprint your mind uses to interpret the meaning of life and signal to your brain the correct way to react. All of this is done unconsciously. So, if our Internal Map of Reality is created via all of the information we gather during our lives on this planet, is it possible that our blueprint is not always accurate? Hmm. My old Map of Reality was convinced that "If I was a good person, I would get the rewards I deserve". Is this accurate? With my old M.O.R I felt PAIN and DEJECTION whenever I didn't receive the rewards I BELIEVED were meant to come my way. My new M.O.R understands that this belief is inaccurate and that life will give me exactly what I need to assist my growth and the growth of others. My new M.O.R gives me feelings of PEACE and APPRECIATION. You can assist the change of your M.O.R by logically questioning the beliefs which are causing you emotional pain and suffering. Is what my M.O.R interpreting accurate? Are there other possible interpretations to the event I am seeing? Remember everything we see in the world is interpreted in our minds, via our Internal Map of Reality, and if this map is causing you pain start editing the map and creating new maps. This is the beauty of your brain, it can and will change for the rest of your life. You don't have to be stuck with your Map Of Reality. J.R
